Q about flat head

posted 28th Nov
My baby boy prefers to lay on his right side of his head instead of the left side. But every time I try to turn him onto his left side, or 'force' him to turn his head by putting something interesting on his left side, he cries.
I already went to the pedi and he sent us to the physiotherapist, but is there anything else I can do at home so he stops preferring his right side.

Did the physio give you exercises. My daughter was born with mild torticolis which means her head, tilted to the right side because she was a big baby and I a little momma. So her neck muscles on the right were shortened and weaker. I had to do stretching and exercises with her and force her to turn her head to the left and look down. You just need to position him even though he doesn't like it. Also when you hold him make sure you hold him so he is on his left etc. Just keep trying to get him to look that... put a rolled up blanket behind his back when he is on his left side so he can't roll over to his right...
Hope that helps my daughter luckily with the stretching and exercises has no issues now and never got a flat head.

He really really cries when I try to make him turn his head, also when I am holding him and he can only look left. I am scared I am hurting him somehow.
I have an appointment with the physio on Friday, I hope she will have some exercises that I can do with him. Thanks for the reply

How bad is it?

My dd is 10 months and the whole right side is flat and they said it would correct itself once she starts walking. They dont do the whole therapy thiong or helmets here till after 18 months of age. And my dd's is bad enough, it has pushed her ear forward lol

Have they looked into torticollis?

It's not that bad, honestly we didn't even notice it until we had his checkup this morning with his pedi and he showed it to us. It's slightly flat and not as well rounded as the other side. I think the physiotherapy will be more preventive than anything at this point? He is only 4 weeks old so he is tiny.

Well they went to extremes lol
The best way to keep an eye on it is to weekly look at the head from apove the baby, looking down you will see it better. lol My dd's looks horrible but there is no worries about, she is developing and there is a ton of room for brain growth. lol

Try turning his bed around or putting a lamp light on that reflects on the wall.
Tummy time can also increase movement and bath time.
