Which do you prefer?

My friends think I'm mental cos I don't have one of those e-reader thingies. I don't like them. I don't like reading on the computer unless it's a short journal article or BG of course. I can't sit at a computer and read a book. I like to be able to turn the pages, to read on a bus, in a park, all that jazz. I understand you can do that with those e-readers but it's not the same as holding a book and feeling the pages and the delicious smell of new books and old books. Love books.

How about you?

I was like you and hated the idea of an e-reader... until I got one and now I love it. I favor niether the books or e-reader - I don't have to read using only one or the other. Its very nice to literally carry a whole library with me.

I voted e-reader... but hear me out.

I COMPLTELY agree with you about the feel/smell of a book in hand. pages turning.. feeling how far into the book you are.

but... I have 4 kids and work full time. The convenience of one click purchase... anytimie, almost anywhere... outweighs the feel of a book in my hand.... going to a library or bookstore... storing them, lugging them to work in my bag.

Yeah we have books everywhere. Right now we have a ceiling to floor bookcase in our lounge, both LOs have bookcases in their rooms and we have a bookcase in our room. And we need another one. Another big one.

I totally get that and I do think that's why e-readers are doing so well.
I think it's more my eyes are really sensitive. Most of the time when I type on a computer I look away from the screen over top of it because my eyes hurt to watch the harsh white light coming out of it and I look away a lot. So an e-reader is quite painful for me.

Though the thought of being able to go "man I want to read this book .... Oh I will just click click click, got it!" is a lot more appealing than wanting a book so packing the kids into the pram and heading down to the library.

But my grandma is a book binder and raised me to adore books and everything about them

I was reluctant to get an e-reader but now that I have it I love it. I can have 10 new books to read any time, anywhere. It's nice when I'm trying to nurse LO to sleep too because I can lay in the dark and read my book instead of having to just lay there or watch tv. It seriously has its pros. I do miss the feel of a book in my hands though, and I hate that I have to charge it up before I go anywhere to make sure it has enough battery for me to not have to stop reading until I want to.

Ebooks because I can pirate them, I can't afford the luxury of books right now and my taste in literature is expensive, but they will never replace the experience of paper books.

The average e-reader isn't backlit so there is no eye strain. That is why they are awesome.

Don't get a Kindle Fire, it's backlit. I really like the Nook I have though.

The tablet types are the ones you shouldn't get for long-term reading, because they are backlit and that is what causes eye strain.

OP, go to Best Buy or whatever kind of store that has e readers out for demo

E Ink displays are not the same as the backlit LCD display you get with computers, phones or tablets. They are not lit at all, if you want to read in the dark then you would have to get a separate book light or a certain ereader like the Nook SimpleTouch w/Glowlight, which merely has a row of small book lights on top of the display that you can turn on/off and adjust the brightness. It looks just like printed ink on paper, except without turning real paper pages.

I just bought the Kobo Arc for my boyfriend and I. Black and white to match our iPhones lol. I can't wait for them to get here! I do love books though and just ordered a box full from Urban Outfitters and Chapters to read over the holidays. I do think the ereader will be handy to take with me on vacations though! I'll probably use both about the same amount.

Technology brought a lot of advancements and these include the advancement of reading through computers or ebooks. Reading online is acceptable, but I'd rather choose to read paper books. One of the most common reasons why I love to read paper books it's because I could easily share it to my friends or to anyone. If I have my own ebook, I would surely think twice if I will lend it to someone because of it costly price. Read more here..
