I'm sorry   I know it's different when it isn't your kid but I would only give mine like one chance, then I'd spank him. I don't do empty threats   he's 4 & will still not get out of bed unless he has to go to the bathroom.

I'd feel awkward spanking someone else's kid though, that's a toughie

I agree!! Sorry to whomever posted this idea...but don't do it!!!!!! Then...you'll have a zombie kid who always needs tv to fall asleep. Then...when they are school aged, they will stay up later and later with that dumb thing! I've seen it happen to family members!

Although right about now I wish she did, so i can use it as a threat.

well most of the time using threats doesn't even work unless you follow through. I have a friend IRL who threatens her kid allll the time but of course she doesn't even listen anymore because she rarely actually does what she says she's going to.

my mom bought it so im sure she got it at walmart or target or kmart. Maybe toys are us. Get the one with the latch on top not down in the middle. The middle ones they get their foot on it & can get right over

She practically lived with us until she was almost 4. She'd go home MAYBE 2 nights a week. I never had to spank her for that because as soon as I said "next time you get up it's a spanking" she wouldn't do it again. Our family is different though. My brother and sil have even seen me spank the kids and they allow it because they know there must have been a valid reason.

Not ready to mature for a kid mostly. When I was 14 and she was 2 weeks my brother was working and my sil left me there with the baby all night so she could go party with friends.

Wow. I am so very sorry for your struggles. There's been times when I wanted to shut the door and cry.

I had problems with my daughter sometimes too.
Usually...it was because of a change. A change in my stress levels that were affecting her, a move, a new routine...etc.

I always read that when a child gets out of bed...you put them right back in. And yes...you do it until they don't come out again.

Well..f that....it never worked for me!!!!

I know this will be a lot harder for you, because of the toddler bed situation....(which I would get rid of)...but the only thing that DID work for me and my daughter was the usual bath and book routine....like you already do.... And then I would lay in bed with her and very very lightly rub her back.

I also played classical music...or had a fan going for white noise...etc...

If that didn't work...and when I got sick of it...I would then pretend to be asleep myself....completely ignore her...and pray that she would go to sleep. Lol


Honestly...it sucked. I know. We are tired. We have other things we need to be doing. Sometimes I would really pass out..lol.
But it honestly didn't take long for her to fall asleep this way. I feel like it was just a habit I was giving her though...getting used to having Mommy in bed.

I would get up when she fell asleep. She knew it too..it was our arrangement.

I'm sorry, I wish I had a miracle cure for you. Just hang in there.  
Try not to show your frustration because then she'll show hers more too..lol.... Little stinkers can't let you have a moment.


As for the spanking thing....that always made things worse for me. I tried it a few times and it only made it worse. There's a reason why she's doing this...you just have to figure it out and fix it. Or maybe the spanking helps? Lol...all I know is that it never helped me!
