Discipline ideas for 3 year old?

posted 27th Nov
LO just broke a plate. I don't know if he truly meant to break it but he threw it on the ground on the tiny bit of tile by the door and broke it. He already sat in time out while I cleaned up the mess but I feel like that's not enough.   We don't spank. Any other suggestions?

He doesn't play with his toys and I took away the tote he was playing with.

^^ Taking away toys and such is always what seems to impact our 3 year old the most. Or telling him he will have to go to bed and sleep - he DOES NOT like having to lay down in the middle of the day or before bedtime at all.

I would have talked to hom about it and made him help me clean it up and leave it at that. He more than likely didn't know it would break. 3 yr olds don't think that way.

I didn't want him to get hurt by helping me and this is the second time he's broken a dish. Last time it was a cup.

Hmmm -- I don't know, then.

My son likes to get up from his chair when he's done and throw his plate into the sink, but because he's trying to be helpful, but after losing like 4 plates and a couple cups, we finally just had to get all cheap plastic stuff for him to use.

My daughter is the same way. When I take a toy, it normally doesn't matter if she plays with it. It still upsets her, and she gets the point. She also has a special bear that she loves.. I save that one for when she is really misbehaving. She normally gets them back by bed time.

It would have been like holding the dustpan.

We have real dishes in my preschool classroom and they get broken. It happens. They're little. Just talk to him about how to handle them.

We don't even have a dustpan. If he hadn't thrown it, I wouldn't care, accidents happen. Guess I'll stick to plastic.

Lol, no bath - my son gets super pissed if I deny him bath time.

Drop him off at the fire station. That is the only solution I can think of for my 3 year old lately  .
