Doctors

posted 27th Nov
Im taking my son friday to the doctors. I think he starting to form a hernia  When i went to his 1 month check up the doctor said he had alot of extra fluid in his balls. He said it could form a hernia so he told me to keep an eye on it. Well ive been and last night i check it and it was pretty tiny and today i checked it and it got bigger just from last night  Im so scared for my little boy what do they do for a hernia? Do they cut it out or can you give them meds??

Maybe some other mamas with personal experience can chime in here, but as far as I know (in adults) a hernia is left alone or it's dealt with surgically if it's a worsening condition. I don't know what kind of medication they could prescribe, really.

Well my sons father had one when he was born but the doctor waited for 9 months and it got so huge and they had to cut it out  i saw pictures of it and it looked awful  i dont want my son to go though that.

Hernias are taken care of surgically. I had hernia surgery when I was 5 and hubby had hernia surgery 2x as an adult.

It is best to take care of it early and hopefully you will get more answers at the drs.

Yeah, like I said, not really thinking medication is going to be helpful here. You seem to have someone with experience in this handy -- baby daddy or baby granny to ask about how it went, what reasons were given for waiting until 9 months etc. I'd expect a surgical consultation and prepare for it. It may not come for a while yet, but if daddy had one and they cut it out then son will likely follow.

As scary as it is to know your baby has tk have surgery, think of it as they are getting it early. So it shouldnt be a problem and he should be just fine!

I had one repaired that popped up when I was a teenager. They'll usually do surgery, and it's easier to fix while the hernia is on the smaller side. Kids are amazing at healing, so much faster than adults!

i babysat a 9 month old that had a hernia, it was her belly button, her mom said that they wouldnt so surgery to repair it untill she was 2 years old, they didnt want to do abdominal surgery on a baby that young for something that wasnt life threatening or causing her discomfort.

Well the doctor thought it was nothing on my boyfirend when he was born so they just forgot about it intill his mother noticeing it getting bigger and he cryed all the time. So she went in when he was about 2 months old and the doctor said nothing is wrong. So about 8 months later it got to the size of a baseball and he couldnt even wear a diaper anymore so they took him to the hospital and then they cuted it out. The doctor at the hospital said if it got any bigger it would of busrt and he would of died:/ Im scared of that happening to my son.
