So, it was brought up in conversation that I should make facebook accounts for my kids. (Who are 4 1/2 and 4 months.)
Obviously, I asked why.

Comments that were brought up were:
1. Easy for family to stay updated, and connected, without having to stay in complete contact with me. (Lots of family drama has separated myself from certain family members, but that doesn't mean my kids should have to be cut off too.)
2. Easily tag their profiles in the picture updates, insuring the pictures would be safe for the to have when they were older. (I have lost a ton of pictures from harddrive crashes and such, this would help insure them having baby pictures.)
3. Already having complete control over the account/email means that when they want to have a facebook to play games on, and eventually having a real reason to have a facebook, I would already have access and the ability to watch them closely.
4. Can keep track of their milestones and life events more permanently and accurately. (It would be cool for them to look back and see when the big things happened.)
5. Can control who see's what, and who can be friendthe account, ect.

I just don't know what I think about it.
According to the internet, 5% of kids under 2 have a facebook account, 7% of kids under 2 have e-mail addresses.

What do you think about it?

They have an age policy for a reason. It doesn't matter if the kid's parents are the one in charge of it. Just no.

I think it's okay to track milestones and such, and keep pictures. But I wonder if FB will ever become obsolete like myspace did, I try to log on to myspace and my computer will not load the page and it completely freezes, so any pics I have on there are useless...

Uhm, no. I think it's ridiculous. My sister made a FB profile for her 1 month old preemie. I just have to roll my eyes.   Then again, she also made a profile for her dog.

I personally don't care who else does it, my kids aren't. I think on the site you're supposed to be 13 to have an account? Either way, my kid isn't going to be on there, my family might not post stuff on their page, but things come up in newsfeeds and you can see comments made on other people's things and it's just not something I want to expose them to yet. I know there will come a time when I'll have to, but I'd rather they be a little older.

No way. My kid won't have a Facebook until he is in high school. I see way too many sexual things, and things that would scare a child to let him be near it.

It's just stupid. I post pictures of my daughter, she doesn't need her own FB at 17 months old. I have a friend who made her daughter a FB, and she would post statuses and say "Going to daddy's but I don't want to". It caused a lot of trouble. I also know a weirdo who made a FB for her cat and updates it more than her own. It's really strange.

I don't like it. The kid is not on there posting topics themselves so IMO what's the point? My cousin made a Facebook for her 6 year old daughter and she didn't make it private, had her daughters full name, there was pictures of her, and in her about me it said where she went to school. An also a girl on my friends list had a baby 3 weeks ago and she made him a Facebook she added me and I denied the request and she asked me why I didn't accept and I told her because kids don't need a Facebook

I agree. You make valid points, but I think it's obnoxious. That's why we have baby books. All my kids pics are on my page so they're safe from crashes (or upload into a cloud). And I have lots of family drama too, if those people want contact with my kid, they can get over themselves and friend me on FB. In fact, most of the people I don't have contact with because of drama, I don't WANT to have access to my kids anyway.

If family members want to keep up with my son at that age, they can read my status updates, look at my pictures, or *gasp* make a phone call or a trip to see him.

I know someone who made one for his car. He posts updates when he changes the oil and stuff..lol
