re: Child Support!?

posted 27th Nov
I don't have a child yet. He is still cooking. I don't beleive they cut off the baby bonus in ontario if you are pregnant if you are still a minor you are entitled to it. Why would they cut it off? Would you not need it more when you are expecting??   I'm still wondering though how much the goverment gives you in total for the baby bonus/ child tax credit/ family bonus (I've never heard of that) how much do you get in total for one child each month? My dad gets fifty dollors each month for me because I am alot older now. What does a babe get??

I was a teen when I had my first dd, and yes they cut it off. And if you no longer live at home they cut it off as well.

And child tax is 390.00 a month then the Universal tax credit (children under 6) is an extra 100.00 a month so its 490 a month on the 20th every month.

Thank you very much for your help!! Its not much he gets to have it cut off for all the taxes he pays, and he still pays alot for me so I don't think its really worth the effort. Plus they'd want money from him not jsut stop the flow. But thanks again coupon lady I really appreciate your help, I didnt think I'd get any replies!

So the parents get that every month? Is it like cash assistance (public assistance/food stamps) or do they just automatically get it because of their income? If a 16-17 year old has a child, do they get the money their parents were receiving plus money for their child now?

No its not assistance every canadian parent is entitled to recieve it till their child turns 18 years of age, or has their own child or moves out of their parents home. Just depends on what happens first. lol

The amount you get depends on income, more income the less you recieve monthly.
And you get the same amount per child you have up to 3-4 kids cant remember if its 3 or 4 tho, and kids after that you only get like a default amount.

And universal you get only till your child turns 6 years old. But every canadian parent is entitled to it, not any kind of assistance

Yeah they do get it every month, you have to apply for it after the baby is born. I think if you make over a certain amount you don't though, my parents never got it for me. And you can only collect it up until they are 18. I don't think it transfers over to kid if they have a kid though.

hmm.. maybe they just never applied for it then? I don't now how much they make yearly but my dad is a logger and my mother was a unregistered nurse until I was in grade nine and is now a registered nurse. So decently paying jobs. There is just me and my brother.

I just heard they make it hard to get citizenship, although I don't have any direct experience with it.

Not past the age of 18 tho. Child support from a parent can be past 18 if they are in school, it can be till 25 years of age if the court wants it. But not child tax (baby bonus)
