My sister and I were just talking about this, and I thought I would consult with the BG ladies.

Do you think there is ever a time when it's okay to call someone a name? Last night my sister's SO called her a smurf when they were arguing about money. She said she asked him a question about something (can't remember exactly what) and his response was yelling "BECAUSE YOU'RE A SmUrf."

He later said sorry and that he only called her the name because he was mad. They have only been together since May, and he went from being really nice and respectful, to this.. and I kinda wonder if it's not his true colors coming out!?

Anyways, feel free to post a response or just respond in the poll.

There is always a time and a place for name calling IMO. lol

I don't think name calling is ever ok. That's like the one rule SO and I have when we get into fights, never call each other names in a fit of rage and don't say hurtful things. For example, if we are in a fight I don't call him an smurf and he doesn't call me a bitch, etc. It's just uncalled for and even though most of the time it's being said in spite, it can really hurt one's feelings.

Yeah, my sister's feeling are rather hurt. I think most of all she is mad at the specific name that he called her.

Same for us too. We aren't angels and we do cuss sometimes but we do NOT name call each other unless its in a positive way.

I don't blame her. I would be very hurt if SO called me a smurf. It's one thing if he calls me a bitch or something..if I'm you know, being a bitch (which I admit, I can be and I know when I'm being one) but if he called me a smurf when we were fighting I'd be pissed.

Yeah, sometimes we'll swear at each other but not to each other..if that makes any sense. Like I'll say, "Quit being so smurfing unreasonable." or vice versa. And we do call each other names sometimes, but only if we're playing around. Like I'll tickle him when he's trying to play Halo and he'll say, "Quit it, ya bitch." Things like that.
