NICU Followup vent

posted 27th Nov
So Anya had her final NICU followup today, and of course, the neonatalogist that I hate with a passion is the one who was in it. First, we were with the child development specialist, and she was great, then the neonatalogist came in and she is just a royal bitch. She said Anya seemed a little scatterbrained, and her thought processes were a little off, thats the part that pissed me off, she is acting like this is not normal behavior for a 3 yr old. I felt like telling her: she's 3, show me one child who is not a little scatterbrained at 3, and to go smurf herself, but I held my tongue.

Thankfully it was her final one, and the only doctors I have to deal with now are her pediatrician and her secondary doctor, who is my doctor, and I love them both

wow. I doubt the doc was saying that just to be mean... Anyway, I'm glad you don't have to see her anymore, lol.

I'm sorry that woman is stupid and you won't have to see her anymore. My son is turning 4 and he's scatterbrained as hell and sometimes I ask myself wtf he thinks sometimes. I'm glad it's your last visit

lmao! Well, I'd rather have a terrific doctor with a smurffy bed side manner than a mediocre doctor with a good one.

I understand though, don't get me wrong.

My son is 10mo (7 adjusted) and he isn't crawling yet either. Not even attempting at this point. he can roll over and sit independently (just recently) but no attempts at crawling and his occupational therapist is just fine with it. She said the doctors looks at charts and statistics and that is it, they don't give each baby an opportunity to grow and develop at their own pace and are quick to start talking delays especially with preemies. I hate his follow up appointments because it is like they expect performance on demand. My son has excellent motor skills ex. transfering toys from one hand to the other, clapping, playing peek a boo with a blanket and grasping with pinchers but when asked to do so by a stranger on demand he is shy and doesn't respond so they act like he has delays which we (his parents and his OT) know couldn't be father from the truth. They can be very rude. Oh and his older half sister never crawled--she went from rolling across the room to walking, no crawling inbetween. Every kid is different i don't know why doctors don't give that any consideration.

I have heard some babies never crawl, your son could be one of them

This is only the 2nd time I dealt with this doctor, and I hated her the first time too.
