I have heard of sudden infant death syndrome... my friend baby died of it. I dont understand sids...what really is it?

The name is exactly what it is, sudden death in an otherwise healthy baby.

It's not completely known, there's only theories. That's why it's just called sudden infant death syndrome because they can't pinpoint the EXACT cause.

My best friends cousin, who's baby official cause of death was SIDS due to suffocation. I don't understand that. That's not SIDS, that suffocation due to co sleeping.. Makes me wonder what statistics really are..

I agree That makes no sense. SIdS is not suffocation.

SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
There not a real specified cause. Some research has said that a common cause can be infant suffocation, injuries that the parent are or may not be aware of, choking. Usually these things can and may occur while the infant is sleeping or even just left alone in the wrong type of environment or with things surrounding him/her that can cause any type of harm.
You just have to be very careful what you leave around your baby.
SN:This is information I received from my doctor. If anyone has more or even better info, please share. I would like to know as much as possible about this.
