Induction Anxiety

posted 27th Nov
Since I found out I was pregnant, Ive planned for a calm, natural birth. Ive been learning techniques to help with the pain, hypnobirthing, relaxation - and just really preparing myself.

Now my due date has come and gone, and I am miserable. My Dr offered to induce me yesterday. I said no, that I want to wait. My cervix is still completely closed ( i know that can change in a matter of hours) but Im just so discouraged. I keep having contractions, and I thought that would at least mean I was dilating - but NOTHING! Im almost completely effaced, but no dilation.

Anyway - He said hes not going to let me go passed Friday. I may even go in thursday to be induced. I know I can refuse, I know I dont have to go - but im just wondering, what is the longest you have ever heard of someone going overdue?

Also, has anyone beein induced and gone through it without an epidural?

I'm pretty sure she was further than that because she kept refusing inductions. Then it took her even longer to name him.

My Pet Wussy and someone else both went to 44 weeks. Both were closely monitored.

I went 19 1/2 hours without the epi. when i was induced, I finally gave in and took it to get some rest but it failed, they took me down for csection due to no change in my cervix (wouldn't dilate past a 3) come to find out my son was only 36 weeks and not 39 like they thought. So my body nor baby was ready. But other wise than having to csection my induction went great. You can handle the pain if you set your mind to it.

Yeah My Pet Wussy was 43 or 44 weeks. I know she was past the 42 mark though..

Aside from that, I was induced with my second and didn't have an epidural. From start to finish, labor and delivery was 20 hours and 20minutes. All I had for pain was nubane, and that was at about 18 or 19 hours.

I've heard of people going 43 weeks. Midwives are usually the ones more apt to doing that. But they can do NSTs and stuff.

If u do need induced it is harder to do relaxation techniques because you can't move around as much. But take a birthing ball if they don't have them there. I was able to sit on it by the edge of the bed. I was able to go on my hands and knees on te bed. But I wasn't allowed to labor in the tub or walk around like I would have liked. But some hospitals have waterproof monitors. So check into that. My hospital doesn't do full epis so I was able to do it w/o. But I did end up with a spinal thing tht only lasted 45 mins. So 45 mins of my labor was medicated. but other than that It was natural. They also have iv meds and stuff. It just depends on the hospital. So pain management doesn't always mean u need a full Epi. You can do it mama. If u do need induced my best advice is to take it as it comes and research yor options just in case you decide at any time to get meds. That way you're not pressured into somehing u don't want. Good luck mama.
