My son gets speech therapy every week, and they come into your home, you don't have to take them to therapy, he was evaluated to be at 10-12month level when he got an eval at 18months.
Honestly, they don't do anything special. They come in and play and teach signs and give you techniques to use with your child to encourage speech. The big reason I like it is because the therapist has the patience that I don't have, plus she is a new face for my son so he is more receptive to her, and she brings new toys every week that aren't in the home so she grabs his attention better than I could. For example one of the things he needed to learn was to ask for things using sign or words, with the therapist he would immediately sign "more, please" but with me he would cry, hit, try to grab it, because he was used to me giving in to him more easily.
The services are free, so I say take advantage even if they don't seem to be doing anything special, they are doing something that works. It has been almost three months and my son has gone from about 4 spoken words and 0 signs, to now knowing 20 signs and 15spoken words! It really is helpful.

This is exactly what the speech therapist did for my daughter when she was two. The services were provided on the post. Once the kids turn 3, they send them to the on post elementary school for special education preschool. She just turned 4 and her speech has really taken off. I am flabbergasted by the sentences she puts together and the way she speaks when having a conversation. Speech therapy is a big help but I think being in the special education preschool is what really got things moving.

My sister had my neice in it and she regrets it , she feels like it put too much pressure on her and now she tries really hard to speak "correctly", but that was for a speach impediment.
