pumping before would increase supply and cause issuses with mastitis. That would be that last bit of advice I would give a patient with over supply and forceful let down. The more you stimulate the more you produce - if you produce more then baby needs and the excess isn't removed it will cause mastitis. If you were my patient I would advise that you quit pumping, nurse in a reclined position, nurse until the beginning of the first letdown and then remove baby and collect what comes out in a cup and then relatch baby. In a few days your supply will balance out and after a few weeks the forcful let down will likely improve and the baby will handle it better. It sounds like you need to se a lactation consultant, or a different one if you already are.
