I couldn't do it, but don't knock those who do. Though I am open to having other women in my relationship... I don't want him being in love with someone else. Sex is one thing... love is another.

I think he's a predator. The little I've watched, these women are weak cannot stand on their own and will pine for any attention from a male they can get.

We shouldn't be encouraging the dependency these women have on him by watching or even having a show based on their sick sad lives.

Can't stand the show, I do not like that man. But I'm all for polyamory, and if SO wanted to open our relationship up, I'd be cool with it.

I don't understand it, and I could never do it. I couldn't be apart of an open relationship or have a threesome in a committed relationship. But I think polygamy should be legal. Why not?

I don't see a problem with it at all. He is only legally married to his 1st wife and everyone involved is a consenting adult.

As long as there is only one legally bounded wife, I don't see an issue. But I would NOT want to be in that kind of relationship. So much cattiness amongst the brides, jealousy....I couldn't do it.

I don't have an issue with the practice itself (although not something I would be interested in) but there are a couple of issues I have with the way it's practiced. Often (although not in the Brown's case) because they're not legally married, the "extra wives" are considered legally to be single mothers, and certainly within the Warren Jeffs FLDS communities those women take great advantage of welfare to support their lifestyle.

The other issue I have, and one that is rarely ever mentioned (except for the Warren Jeffs communities) is the lost boys. Being polygamous doesn't mean you get to have a greater girl:boy birth ratio. For those following this particular religion, they believe that in order to get to heaven they have to have three wives. So that leaves about 2/3 of the men going to hell or cast out. I think that particular aspect of the practice is awful and one that really can't be avoided in polygamous communites.

It's not for me, but I don't have a problem with it. If it makes them happy and their kids aren't suffering for it, more power to them. Honestly, polygamy was the norm not very far back in history. It's only in recent times that it has become stigmatized due to the notion that a man should have one wife. But that's a more recent development historically. It was not unheard of for a man to have an arranged marriage and then have several lovers on the side. The same for the wife.

Ok I live 15 miles from Colorado City and the things that go on there are wrong! When there get to be to many boys in the group they kick them out and tell them God has not chosen them. So they are cast out and called the "lost boys". These boys rely on good people to take them in. Most of them if not all only have 3rd grade education and cant even write. Then there are the girls. And I mean young girls at the age of 12 get married of to men that are old enough to be their dads or even grandpas! Yes its not a "legal" marriage but they are FORCED to have sexual relations with these men. Some run away and some get caught running away. The ones that get caught, well they end up "missing" my husband is the constable or peace officer and he has stood in court where THREE girls had been found "drown" in the same pond shortly after they had tried to escape the compound. They had no evidence to convict anyone so it was considered accidental.. how convenient. There are SO many stories I could tell. The women who all live in these MANSIONS and have 8 kids or more each, get money from the govt because they are considered "single" moms. As long as their houses aren't finished on the outside they don't have to pay taxes. They dont have dead lines so most of the houses dont EVER get finished. Tell me thats not illegal. Warren Jeffs is in JAIL for having sex with a 12 yr old and he RECORDED IT! Because he is considered their "prophet" EVERYTHING he did had to be recorded or witnessed. We drive threw their com unity and they all run and hid. The kids are well behaved because they water bath them at a young age to keep them quiet. If yo don't know what that is look it up. Have you ever seen a down syndrome Polygamist? No because they don't keep them around. It's awful what happens there and its even more awful that these people believe its right. Since Warren has been in jail he took away their toys, games, movies, bikes, anything entertaining becasue he cant do it so they cant. And he assigned 5 men to be the ones reproducing. FIVE MEN ONLY!! They are a messed up people and most of them believe it to be true. Thats the saddest part of all.

I wanted to add something here... I've watched most of the episodes and I can tell you that's not the case. For example, Christine is VERY outspoken and doesn't take any smurf. Janelle controls/handles the family finances and has always worked full time. And Meri is the one who encourages him to date and marry more women. They have the same issues most friends do...sometimes jealousy pops up, but they resolve it and really all seem to love each other. No one forced these women into this, it's a decision they made based on their faith and what they believe to be right. I don't think Kody is a predator, though. He's outnumbered by some very outspoken and opinionated STRONG women.

To be fair that particular sect of the FLDS (albeit the largest from what I've learned) is run by a psychopath. Rulon wasn't nearly so crazy.
