nursing?

Dd quit night nursing about 2 weeks ago. She will be 8 months old on 12/3/12. She only nurses 4 times a day. She will only eat solids if shes very hungry and fussy.

Is this normal? Should i be concerned?

That is about how dd is she is 9 months

I would make an appt. The majority of babies nutrition should be breast milk or formula until 1 year old. Sometimes babies go through nursing strikes, if she's teething she might not want to nurse that often. Have you tried offering a sippy cup of breast milk or formula?

I nursed my daughter until she was 11 months old and she would still wake up two or three times a night, after I stopped nursing she still drank a bottle some times two a night until about 14 months then she started to sleep through the night with out waking

I can inly pump an ounce and that just makes her mad.   I can hear her eat though and she pushes away when she's done. :/

It sounds like she's following her body ques for hunger... But 4 times seems so little in a 24 hour period. Are your fluids up? If she's going pee and poo regularly she's probably fine.

What do you mean she is mad after you pump an ounce?

Yes normal amount of pee diapers she only poops every 2 or 3 days though. But its been that way for a while. And i mean all i get is an ounce and if i just give her an ounce she gets mad and wants more i just BF on demand since i cant really pump.

Yes and we have to be in a dark room with the tv off or she doesnt pay attention.

Honestly it sounds like she needs more milk. If you can't pump enough then I would offer your breasts. When she's done offer an ounce or two of formula and if she's still hungry more. I would offer your breast more often too. No more than 3 hours between offering and if she denies wait another hour and if still nothing a bottle or sippy. If she was satisfied and didn't care about the extra milk I would say she's not hungry, but IMHO it sounds like she is. Also, add in some extra fluids and fatty calories and see if that helps bump your production.

sounds like dd. She is so wiggly and distracted and then slides off my lap and she is gone again lol.

Lemme ask you this mama, is she gaining weight and having a normal amount of wet diapers? If so, i would not be overly concerned. My son did this. Some babies just go through phases of wanting to eat a ton but as long as they are still taking in enough liquids and maintaining a positive weight I wouldnt worry.

If you do want to be able to pump more you can try taking funagreek and blessed thistle to keep your supply up and increase your pumping output but it is up to you. I think you are doing fine as long as you keep offering the breast. Some children just get distracted. Give it time and she will start wanting to nurse more I am sure.

My son was the same way. Some children get easily distracted. Its a phase. You don't need to supplement :] Just keep offering the breast. She will be alright.

I agree to a point. But don't you think 4 nursing sessions in a 24 hour period is too little at 9 months? My sons pulled this same kind of thing for a few days, but not weeks. KWIM?
