You have a greater risk to miscarry if you have an untreated UTI than to take the medication. If you're doctor perscriped it and knows you're pregnant. isn't that enough?

Bactrim is considered pregnancy class C...so the doctor should only prescribe it when the benefit outweighs the risk. But an untreated UTI can be dangerous.

I also have a uti and was prescribed that the other day. The pharmacist didn't outright tell me I couldn't purchase the medicine, but suggested I go call my doctor and remind him I'm pregnant before taking that.

Well did you call your doctor back and ask or did you just take it?

I am surprised she didn't prescribe Amoxicillin or Macrobid but it depends on the type of bacteria...they usually do a culture to see what antibiotics the bacteria is susceptible to. Maybe this is a resistant strain or something.

Sorry, I should have finished. I did call today and left two messages, with no call back. Will be calling tomorrow and actually going there if I haven't heard anything.

You can call and speak to a triage nurse; they can tell you if a med is safe or not (I called to confirm I should take the Macrodantin prior to filling the prescription

i think that may be what i was given... either way there is a kind that is safe for pregnancy. you should be fine   so should baby. your doctor would give you something not safe if he/she knew you were pregnant.

All UTIs are not the same...you might have one that is resistant to the other antibiotics so she had to prescribe something stronger. Ultimately, an untreated UTI is more dangerous to your baby than the antibiotic. But I would definitely ask her.
