I always wondered why or how do people like wives of a mafia member end up in that situation. Like did she know he was in the mob before marrying him, how can they handle that type of life. It's just very interesting to me.

Yup random thought of the night.

They don't tell the wives they are part of a mafia and when they find out, it's too late or they get threaten?

My experience is that the women already know. Most of the time the woman’s family is already involved or associated with it themselves. They are from the same walk of life. I don’t know so much about the mafia but this is usually what happens with bikies… You handle it because that’s your life, you grew up with your mother doing for your father, and you learn pretty quickly to do the same for the neighbourhood, family, friends, boyfriends and then husbands.

Yeah I can see it from that point of view. But I also wonder do they ever think of having a different life outside of that? Just curious.

After watching a few episodes of "mob wives" it seems that those women love the men in that lifestyle and knew they were in it before getting married. Who knows? I'm sure those TV wives don't represent them all.

True. I've never watched the show but I watched American Gangster & was just like how do you end up falling for someone like that.

Not really… It’s just like any other lifestyle to be honest. Like it or not most of us follow in the foot steps of those around us, there are the few that will get out and make a different life but if that’s all you grew up knowing it’s hard to step outside of that. And don’t forget where these women are from, its not like the family are going to celebrate if one of their women stand up and say “oh by the way, I just joined the FBI”. There would be consequences. Don’t know if I’m making sense.

Again, just my personal experience, but I’m a parole officer, my dad is a bikie and I’m from a “hood” (for want of a better word). I really like my job but I struggle sometimes. My job is law enforcement. But my family life is almost completely opposite. In our family cops are dogs, you don’t dob, you keep your mouth shut about family and neighbourhood business, and if there is a problem we sort it out our way etc. Most of my friends and family are crims. If it came down to it, I would choose my family and friends over my job, that’s just where my values lie.
