My daughter askd bout periods

My daughters 5 1/2 yrs old and just asked me what age I started my period... Shes really curiious and IDK what to say? I told SO that its about time to tell her I started at age 8 :-( he freaks out about it and tells me she dont need to know anything about it til shes a preteen... The reason she knows is cuz she has "bad timing" walking into the bathroom....

tell her! Be honest.

tell her. my mom told me when i was really young cause i saw her tampons. didn't make me crazy or anything.  

wow 8 is super young. you can tell her when you got yours but tell her its really uncommon and she will probably be older when she gets her. But that it doesnt hurt even though there's blood, its just something the body does to clean itself.

Be honest with her. Especially since you started your period at 8 years old she needs to know info. I wouldn't lie to her or disregard her questions because your hubby is in denial....lol. Since you started your period that early there's a good chance she will as well

Nothing wrong with telling her now. What if she gets it earlier than expected and it hasn't been discussed? That'll freak her out. Its good to discuss it while she's showing curiosity.

At least she is comfortable talking about it! I remembered getting my period and being to scared to tell my mom because we had never talked about it so i felt like it was almost a taboo subject. My mom didn't know until I got my period the third time.

I would tell her basics, it's a natural thing.

I think she wanted to know for a reason. Its awkward, but I'd go with the trueth. maybe more questions after it, but if you say preteen and not a specific number she could very well ask for a number. children are very paticular about that.

I think it's good to be open. I asked my mom what a period was after learning in school at like age 10 or so and she wouldn't tell me.. She just bought me tampons. One day at 12I started bleeding down there and freaked out I had no idea what was going on

I think this is my bfs prob.... I use penis and vagina and thats how my kids say it and I feel its ok! But omg my SO asks like im a bad mom

tell him that hiding things from the kids will make them seek the answers out themselves and that's not the way you want them to learn these things.
