funeral and in laws S&L

My aunts funeral is on wednesday... I wont make it in time. I'm going on a free flight on the first of December. I was originally going to keep it secret, because I want to spend the time with my family.. Well, SO slipped up... he wants me to take our daughter to see his family. We were there for almost a month, and stayed with them the whole time... and he wonders why I don't want to see them this time, by myself. I'm really bummed, since it's their fault I only got to spend a few hours with my aunt (who died recently) when we last visited (long story)... So I put up a disclaimer on my facebook... would this offend you?


"Since SO asked me to make an exception, here goes. I am coming home December 1st. Originally, I was not wanting to tell anyone so I could spend 2 weeks with my family. If anyone in SOs family would like to see Emma, please let me know. However - I will not contact you, nor find my way to where you are. I'm really sorry if this offends anyone, but I am going home due to the fact that my aunt passed away. So make sure you message me, and I can let you know where I'll be and when I'll be free..."


I don't think a normal person would be offended, however, I'm thinking SO's family will if I don't try to take her to them... Even though I don't drive,  

It wouldn't offend me. But I also don't think you need to explain yourself to anyone.

You deserve time with your family too. They should be understanding.

It wouldnt offend me espicially if i knew you didnt drive. Your aunt just passed. your are there for that reason. They want to see your daughter they need to make arrangments and not just expect for you be coming forward offering time. your daughter should spend time with your side of the family too. Just my opinion. I think your doing fine. I am sorry for your loss

I think that is fine...you are putting it out there that they can see her but as you said you are there for a funeral not a vacation.

Thanks, I loved my aunt. She, aside from my grandma, was the only one to ever come visit me   I've been gone for 4 years, now.  


SO's family always tries to lay the guilt on me, and I always try to be "the nice guy." I just can't do it this time,   and I'm really determined not to feel guilty over it. Though, since I'll have my daughter and not my son, I'm sure to get a few emails from them.  

I don't think it's "rude" persay but if I was his family I wouldn't MSG you or tell you to come over simply because you're not on vacation. You're going to your aunts funeral and I'd leave you and your family alone. If anyone gets offended, they should keep it to theirselves. Just curious, did you set this as your status or did you send it in a MSG? I don't think everyone needs to know all that.

Good question! Or at least hide it so only they can see it.
