School aged kids with a cold

at what point do you keep your child home from school? My 5yo said she doesn't feel good.. She sounds a bit congested but has no fever. I've never had a school aged child before, so I'm not sure! Hope she feels better by tomorrow!

I can keep her home, no problem. It's not me that I worry about it. It's her! She's also autistic and VERY set in routine. Disrupting it is always a big big deal!

My grandpa's rule with me was to go to school and if I still felt sick later on to call and he would pick me up. With my 11 year old I kinda evaluate how she looks and sounds before just sending her in. She hates missing school at all so usually if she asks to stay home it's because she's really miserable.

I say a mama knows her child best, if she doesn't have a fever and wants to go to school I'd send her. Then again, I do not have an autistic child so I can't say what that would do to her if she stayed home.

With my daughter, if there is no fever, and gunky nose, then she goes to school. I tell her if she is still not feeling well after an hour or so at school, then she can go to the office and they can call me to go pick her up. Usually once she gets to school and sees her friends, she perks up. I know when I'm not feeling well, I am always worse in the morning and night, but I usually feel better once I'm up and about.

If she's Set in her Routine, even if Not Autistic, I would be hard pressed to Not send My Child!
But if I had a Hard Set Autistic Child I would find it really hard to Keep them Home for all but the hardest illnesses. With all the Disruption's it can cause to Everyone's Life including when they Get Back to school, it's not worth the Trauma.
That however could change if there was any Immune-compromised Classmates involved.

Alot of times my Kids Look, & Sound sick when they're not really. But we have Perfume Allergies, & those are A Nightmare Beast!
