Yeah, I can imagine - if my kid said something like that and it actually happened, I would probably have to re-evaluate some things in my life.

Yes I believe in 'witchcraft'. A vast majority of my friends are Wiccan and have dabbled in both light and dark magic ... I myself studied Spirituality and have used 'satanic' tools during my studies. I am now a Norse Paganist which involves a mixture of all kinds of spirituality and magic.
I do however believe that a large amount of Witch Doctor magic (depending on the spiritual denomination) is a placebo ... its amazing what the mind can do.

Yep. I'm Wiccan, I've done rituals and spells before when I had the opportunity to have my altar up and active. When we move, I'll probably put it back up in SO's and mine's room. Anyhow, there's a big difference between 'witchcraft' as the general public sees it, and Wicca/Pagan religions. Wicca is more based on the earth and the spirits IN it, and respecting it. If you respect the spirits, more good will happen for you. The more bad things you do and the more you disrespect the world around you, the more bad things will happen to you. Karma.

It's all hard to explain, especially at this moment since I'm crashing hormonally speaking, but that's the jist of it.

exactly its all apart of being part of the Universe and taking its energy and strength into yourself and using it appropriately.

Quoting Perfectly Imperfect  :" Do u believe in this? I'm asking cause that is supposably what happened to my bd, his mom went to a witch doctor to "cure" him, I think it's bs, what do u ladies think?"

I don't believe in magic but typically those who practice those types of religions are not trying to hurt anyone. We can thank monotheism for demonizing "witches".

With regards to the mentioning of the placebo effect...

This can be a double edged sword. The placebo effect has been shown to work in reverse, a common example of the nocebo effect would be people believing that an OTC or generic painkiller would be "weak" or not work for them.

What's funny is that I've talked to some people about Rx ibuprofen. They get a script for 800mg ibuprofen, pay maybe 5 or 10 dollars for it, and think it's better than the dollar store ibuprofen they already have at home.

But what's not funny is the negative effects certain kinds of religious beliefs can have on someone's psyche or physical health... for example, if come believes they are "cursed" or "hexed" it could have any number of effects on them... or if someone believes that demonic possession is possible and they are at risk of being possessed, they could exhibit signs of possession.

I don't really. I think there are things we can't explain yet, and that we have a lot more power over ourselves and our surroundings then we always realize, but I don't believe in witchcraft in the traditional spells and curses way.

Wow, that's crazy!

Though I have some CRAZY intuition about things. I can pick up the phone before it rings and know specific people are calling. Other things like that.

A tribe in Africa believe that if you eat wild hens you have committed a horrible sin and will die within moments of consuming the animal. A doctor from the USA tried an experiment: he fed wild hen to one of the tribe members but told the member that it was not a wild hen, but a farm grown one. The man did not die. A year later the doctor came back to the tribe and told the man the truth, that he had consumed a wild hen. The man died within seconds of receiving the information.

There are so many similar examples.

I believe that the mind is so powerful, that if you truly believe in something, it can have a physical effect on you.
