Go for child support of you could make it on your own? I would never. Actually I don't even think I would even if I was broke.

Yes I would. I'd put it toward College or something. Just because you can make it on your own, doesn't mean you should have to.

Yes, I would go for child support either way. If I didn't need it to take care of our child, I would put it into a savings account for him/her.

It depends on more factors than just my finances.

I wouldn't ever. Only because I know he would have to pay me $800/month. He used to have to pay his ex wife CS and we couldn't make it because of that. SO i would never do that to him again.

I would go for child support no matter what. Just because I can support the child on my own doesn't mean I should have to as it's not just my responsibility.

When Dh and I split up about 3 years ago he continued to do what he had always done for Dd.

I told him as long as she had everything she needed between the two of us I would not file for child support.

I think that's what I would do. I mean as long as he either bought her clothes/school supplies/etc or sent me money as needed to split that, that's what I would do.

If he couldn't support himself on his income, then maybe not. Or do an out of Court thing. But as long as he's active in her life, then I don't see the need to cause him a hardship if you have everything covered.

But I also think if you're at a job where you couldn't provide anything for your child, or have absolutely no extra, then you should probably be looking for a new one, or a second one.

Well if I had to, I would go on some sort of state assistance before I asked for CS.

I would move far away so physically seeing her all the time would be hard. But I still wouldn't put that on him.

Yes, because it is his child too. Even if I was able to provide for the child, I would still do it. It is his responsibility as much as it is mine. I would put the money in savings in case something came up. Medical bills, college, first car, etc.

I'm pretty sure if you go on assistance they make you apply for child support.

Not if he's not on the BC like in my situation.

And that's state by state anyway.

He has another kid to raise. I'm not gonna put a hardship on him.

Ahh I see. I was thinking they made my SIL apply, but he was on the birth certificate, so I guess it is different in that case.

I refuse to go for child support. If BD would just disappear forever, I would be more than thrilled.
