Trust me, your taxes are going to far worse things than this!

When I applied for assistance they asked me about him and wanted me to track him down. I never did and still got assistance.

Oh no, I know... but... eh... whatever. Just seems like men who father children should pay for said children instead of the money coming from the tax payers.

Here you cannot request a lower amount. You get what they say.

The way I see it is I would rather get on FS (since I qualify) to help me through school for 4 years than put DH through a major hardship by paying me CS when he DOESN"T qualify for any sort of help. There is another childs well being on the line here.

LOL she got tired of asking me. I didn't give a smurf. The guy was never around and I felt if he was forced into paying child support he'd start coming around and I didn't want that lol

I mean I would want DH involved in her life, but I'm not gonna force him to not be able to take care of his other kid because that's what the government thinks should happen. I have been on that side of the fence with him before. It's not pretty.

If you do it out of court you can. I just made a thread about this. BD and I are setting up a parenting plan and child support outside of court, but making it legally binding by having it written up and notarized by a lawyer.
If I brought him to court he'd be paying around 800 a month. But this way if he doesn't follow through, he's still held liable.
I scrape by on mac and cheese and hot dogs without his help, but I don't think that's fair to LO.
I understand not going after CS though, K is three and were just starting this process.

Not here you can't. We asked, and so did DH's ex wife. They said no. Absolutely not. And we went to court twice and saw two different judges about it.

I do think it's hard to imagine (for some people) to not ask for CS. When the state takes over you don't get a say in how much you're given. You could get a grossly low amount.. or ridiculously high amount.
My SO has two boys who we have at our home on a regular basis. He still pays around $700 a month plus insurance for them. When he first started paying (it was forced through child support recovery because his ex applied for government assistance) he was paying a little over $1000 a month. Trust me, he doesn't make that kind of money. We were broke, living without power, had no food, and borrowed gas money for him to go to work. He would work for $60 BIWEEKLY paychecks. They said he was 2 months behind in child support. Needless to say we got a loan to get an attorney and get everything straightened out.
If you have a father willing enough to be a part of your child's life.. count your blessings. My SO fights tooth and nail..works very hard to see his children. He provides for them at their mother's and at our home.
