He said he's depressed and he doesn't think the fighting will change. He said he needs a break from everything and a change and he wants to leave by himself. But he won't go

I've gone into a depression and was in complete denial about it. So just because he says he isn't depressed, doesn't mean he truly isn't. What has been going on with him lately? Any changes in life? Has he done this before?

This is why I said dump him. He may very well be depressed but If a guy was telling me that he didn't want to be with me anymore and felt no emotions towards me then I'd leave him. No reason to stick around with someone who doesn't want to be with me. But maybe that's not what's going on. It was just my first impression.

That's not what I meant. I was under the impression that he just walked up to her and said "I don't feel anything towards you anymore and I don't want to be with you." not that he was going through a hard time. Obviously if he's going through something than I would say differently. Maybe I had the wrong impression. Way to be a bitch though  

If it is just depression and not him being an smurf then obviously I'd recommend supporting him in any way you can. Recommend therapy or even medication and watch for any negative signs. I hope he feels better and you both work it all out.

This literally just happened to my friend. Turns out he was cheating on her, and now they're divorced.

I think he'd be more eager to leave her if he had another relationship going.

That's what I thought when my friend told me about him acting this way. She came home one day to him smurfing another woman. So, it happens. He said he had no feelings and did exactly the same things OP is describing.
