You should try and research them then and see what you think. A Shelter that will just let you turn up on the day, pick a Cat and take it home or they are happy to try and push any Cat on you and say anything just so you will take it is not good. Where we adopted from you first had very lengthy phone call discussing all kinds of things such as experience with Cats, ages of children in the house, if we had main roads near the house, absolutely everything you can imagine then afterwards you have a house visit. Once all that has happened they will try to find a Cat that fits you. You then come to visit the Cat, see how you all get on and if all are happy you can take the Cat home. You are subject to a contract stating if you have to give the Cat up then it must be returned to them, you cannot give it to just anyone without their approval. You must also agree to a second visit within the first 6 months to see everything is well and every single Cat comes already neutered, microchipped and vaccinated with 4 weeks free insurance. Sounds like alot but that shows they are dedicated and that's what you should look for in a Shelter. I've never known any Cat be returned to them and everyone I know adopts from them, I would never go anywhere else.

Well that's cool. I do know the place where SO got his puppy, he just went there during his lunch hour and chose the puppy and took it back to work with him. They paid for the puppy to be neutered, and gave it the first shots but that was it.

Yes unfortunately that is what some do, they just want the animal placed anywhere as long as it's a home. They probably have the best intentions but they need good practice in place for it to work and that isn't it. Just look for a Shelter that is extremely thorough, questioning you to the point you think they are being rather nosey, making you sign contracts agreements, etc and trust me that's how you will find exactly the right Cat for you.

Also please consider a Black Cat, a Black and White Cat or a Tortie Cat. These Cats are the most unlikely to be adopted as their colour/pattern isn't as cute/interesting/etc as other Cats and are the most euthanized type of Cat.

The only reason I adopted the only adult cat I've ever adopted, is because she was completely black!      lmao I'm shocked that black cats aren't wanted more!

She died last year   my mom and I still cry when we look at her pictures.   She was an awesome cat.

I agree I think black Cats are absolutely gorgeous. We think ours is like a little Ninja, he literally disappears! I swear sometimes you can't see him because he just blends in   our other Cat is black and white and she is amazing too..... I admittedly never used to like Cats until my DH talked me into adopting one and well now we have 2! Lol

Calico is a specific type of Tortie, mostly made up of white and beige and Brown, etc but there are all different kinds of Tortie colours.

I had to get my cats declawed due to it being in my lease. For one of them, it was the best thing for her. She has three legs and when she'd walk on carpet she'd constantly get stuck and panic, pulling her leg so hard she'd sometimes bleed. For the other I really didn't want to get it done, but it WAS in the lease. However, they didn't have any bed affects from it, and still use their box, and let me touch their paws. Then I got a kitten and decided enough with the declawing, I don't care about the lease. For him, I clip his nails. I started when he was little by playing with his paws when he'd cuddle. He's perfectly fine with me clipping his nails. A bonus to nail clipping? You can do the back paws as well.
