c-section questions

posted 26th Nov
I have a scheduled c-section, my last was an emergancy & i dont remember much because I was put under, so I have some questions: What do you feel during the c-section? how is the spinal done? DS & I had trouble breastfeeding after my section, any tips on success? and do you stay awake or do you fall asleep after?

I just felt pressure from them tugging. The knocked Me out to sew me up though because I could feel that. I didn't have a spinal, just the epi. I was awake Until I kept saying it hurt.

my c-section felt like the doctor was pulling at my guts... lol i could feel them up in my ribs (i'm sure they weren't). Never hurt though. he was out within the first 5 mins and the other 40 was spent putting me back together. they let me see when they pulled him out, then they cleaned him up and let me lay head to head for a bit then they did all the weighing and stuff.

I had an epidural for mine, not sure if that's how they're all done?? but I don't remember mine happening much as i had it while i was having 1min apart contractions. Trying to stay still was hard! lol.

We also had mega trouble breast feeding, i could do it (just about) for the first 3 days but he wouldn't latch properly and got well hungry so went to formula and pumped the rest of my milk out till it ran out. lol.

and i fell asleep in the recovering room after, i'm not sure if that's cause of the c-sectin or before i was in labour for4 days before though. xx

I've had an emergency and a planned.
I felt tugging, pressure on my chest (when they pull the baby out)
I had an awesome anesthesiologist that kept updating me with 'feelings' i might experience at the time, in correlation with what was going on (behind the drape)

Had an epidural, it went smoothly (especially compared to my first)
Had a rough time initially with BFing my first, my second latched immediately.

I also had an abdomend band put on immediately following the surgery (by the surgeon(s)) that helped immensely.

I was stitched up and they were desolved before the patch came off 6 days after. i was able to move about and do most stuff without pain by 2 weeks after. obviously didn't lift much other than Baby though, had Other half to boss about for all that! lol. x

Every c-section is different. Mine was bad. They made me sit on the edge of the table and I almost fell off when they did the spinal. Everything went good until they got DD out. All this pain hit me and they had to knock me out. Mine was a last minute thing, I was in labor for to long ad had to have it done.

I was knocked out for mine....when I woke up I was REALLY out of it lol...I tried bfing my daughter but I fell asleep while trying to feed her because I was soo groggy. I woke up in a room where they watched my bleeding or whatever, my daughter was in the nursery & when I called looking for her they had to send her to the NICU because she was having issues. I wasn't able to breast feed her for awhile & even then it was hard to nurse her because she was in the NICU. When I went to see her I always breastfed her & the nurses were VERY supportive. Also the lactation consultant helped me a lot....it was a slow and hard start to bfing & my milk wasn't fully in for a month & a half so I had to supplement with formula. After that she was fully breastfed and still is.

Aww, thats great, I didnt know milk could come in after that long...I wish I had tried harder with my son, but because of an allergy to my stitches I was on so many medicines & really gave up.

Well I mean it was there, but I wan'ts producing enough..My DD would still cry for more after I would feed her for over an hour on both boobs...so then I would feed her formula...it was tough for sure & I wanted to give up at times but I stuck through & it was worth it.
