Induction & Pain Meds

When your induced can you get anything for pain until your dilated enough for an epi? With my son I pretty much showed up at the hospital 6cm so all I had to do was get a room and then I could get my epidural, it was all pretty quick I was lucky, I know inductions can take a long time.

they gave me pit and kept asking as soon as I got there if I wanted an epi. I never got past a 4. So idk. I guess it depends on the dr?
They gave my friend an epi when she was still at a 2

depends on your doc. They may give you stadol or something similar.

Yeah iv meds can't remember what they are called though.

With my induction it was 27 hours. I got stuck at 7cm for a couple hours and they did give me a shot of something. I think it was a muscle relaxer, and then 1.5 hours later I got the epidural. My BP got really high and wouldn't come down though, so I was forced to have an epidural and if I declined I would have been an emergency c-section. Hopefully your labor goes better then mine did!

I wouldnt reccommend getting anything else...the other drugs can make you feel loopy, drunk, and just crap, and they effect the baby alot more.. And my induction took forever...it took 4 days for me to finally get pitocin and once they started it and hard labor started..wooo that hurt. I got an epi after 6 hours of hard labor..my contracts were immediately 2 mins apart and never let up and got worse. I was 110% getting the epi...but im glad i did...i think i would have passed out or something..it was bad.

Oh, they started offering the pain meds at 5cm. No sooner though.

They gave me an epi as soon as I started with pit. I was a screamer tho so that could have been why....

how come you need to be induced?

Not an induction but Nubain (sp) made me pain free n loopy n relaxed

I have a heart condition that was putting a lot of strain on our hearts so I was put on medicine to help but it has bad side effects for the baby so the less she is exposed to it the better.

I never had the epi, or an iv... so I'm not sure. But I did have some pethedine, and gas.
