birth story and pics!

Couple more hours and little man is 2 weeks old! So...I'll do a brief rundown of my labor I guess.

So, on the 11th I went in for my NST and ultrasound since I was overdue. They were doing them every 2 days. Everything was good. Not a single contraction. Fluid had dropped, but still within normal range. The OB said we'd revisit it 2 days when I came back and see how things looked then and discuss induction (which I absolutely did not want) if the fluid dropped more.

I went home determined to go into labor by Tuesday. Spent some time with the kids at the playground and then it was down to business...I put DH to good use and then I did this thing called the Miles circuit that someone told me about. I was pretty sure it didn't work because it just seemed silly that it would. I started getting painful cramps probably within the hour after finishing the circuit thing. That was around 7 pm or so. I don't really know. I was in complete denial that it was real labor all the way up until my water broke around 1:30 am because my contractions were never regular. 1.5 minutes, 3.5 minutes, 6 minutes, 11, back to 1.5 between them. All over the place. We went to the hospital around 2 am. At 3:21 am my little man was born weighing in at 8 lbs 3 oz and 21.25 inches long. I got my all natural water birth. I never went to the mother/baby floor. They moved us to this little family room in the l&d area that had a bathroom and a double bed. DH, baby, and I stayed there for a few hours until we went home around 9 am.

you did...i seriously deleted them just before heddur replied. it was great! if we ever have another, it better be before we leave germany because i can't imagine birthing in an american facility ever again.

Gotta find a birth center.. like an actual one. I went to one and it rocked my socks. Felt like a home. Or home birth. Home birth is great too

Yeah. That's tricky...like where we were stationed last there were no birth centers and not even a CNM in the area. We could but I'd rather not pay out of pocket for maternity care.

We were actually planning a home water birth with this one...but then the military decided to offer us base housing which we had been waiting forever on. Great timing they have. We moved at the end of October. There was too much going on and no room for the birth tub at the new place...so I went back to my German doctor (the only reason i left her to begin with was so i could do it at home. i adore my doctor...although she wasnt there for the delivery. midwives pretty much handle the show if all is well. whoever the on call doc lady was that night came in around the time he was crowning and just stood back and observed.)
