breastfeeding

DS has been EBF since I had him Monday. They said to feed him 8-12 times a day. DS was born 6lbs & 14oz but came home at 6lbs 1 oz(he had A LOT of bowel movements, I think that's why the big drop in weight) well my issue is(or question rather)I fed him as much as possible in the hospital but he would never eat 8 times in 24 hours. He would only go to maybe 5 feedings a day. He still does this but my milk came in a few days ago so I know he's getting a lot more than just colostrum. My boobs waterfall whenever he cries. I've had to hand express a bit before he nurses each time. Since he's getting more to eat, is it bad that he doesn't eat 8 times a day? He has regular wet diapers & bowel movements. He's at the stage of yellowish gold, seedy looking poo

that seedy poop means that he's getting exactly what he needs. As long as he's getting lost of wet/poopy diapers then don't worry too much about it   How long does he eat for at a time?

15-30 minutes usually. Sometimes only 10 but that's usually when I'm really pouring out

Watch his clues, not the clock. It is an average number. My son used to sleep a lot during the day but once he latched on at 5pm he was on until 10pm (approximately) --cluster feeding. Also what his diaper output is, which seems perfect as you describe it.

that makes sense, he's eating longer than the average so he doesn't need to eat as often as the average.

I just felt bad because I didn't want to seem like I was starving my baby. All of the books I've been looking into & the nurses I talked to said 8 times a day at least.
