No christmas for DD :(

It's DD's first Christmas this year and sadly we won't be celebrating. I feel like a horrible mom. I've been saving and saving for us to get an apartment and away from my mother and her husband. I finally have enough for the apartment PLUS enough for a small Christmas. Went and applied at apartments, started packing and they called to tell me I have an unsatisfied eviction on my credit report. I lived in BD in an apartment in 2010 as an OCCUPANT. I left him and he was evicted and apparently never paid it off. Somehow that's on MY credit and in order to get this apartment I have to pay it off. I've called everyone I can call and because I'm not in the state they pretty much keep telling me there's nothing I can do. The lady at the apartment complex (where the eviction is) I talked to yesterday said it would only effect me if I signed the LEASE. I told her I signed saying I was going to be occupying it along with BD and she said that's the same as being put on the lease. WTF? Since when?? I guess I should've been more cautious.

I'm just so upset for DD. I only have 2 toys for her that I bought a couple months ago.... She'll only be 8 months and I know she won't remember it, but it's her FIRST Christmas. I just feel like a bad mom I guess.

Christmas isn't about gifts, it's about being together.

Don't feel bad, things happen. She is young and won't have any memory of it. Maybe you can do something special for her at some other time just to put you at ease.

just make it a fun day of xmas movies, some holiday themed food, and maybe a craft project with an xmas theme. she'll love it.

As for the eviction, they are all right, you signed the lease, and that holds you legally/financially responsible.. For future reference, be sure if you leave, sign a roommate release, so it doesn't come back to bite you in the ass

But I thought signing as an occupant and signing the lease are different?? That's how it was explained to me when I signed.

No not anymore. It was 2 years ago... And they didn't file on it until THIS month. He was evicted in like April or May of 2010. So it took them 2 1/2 years to file? I thought he told me he paid it off, but I have no way of contacting him at this point.

not here, everyone in my complex signs the same form, we require anyone over the age of 18 to sign the lease, it covers everyone's ass in the process, if you get some jack ass roommate that doesn't pay their share for the month, or destroys the place, and they aren't on the lease then you are screwed.

Can u look into good Samaritans for Christmas help? We did that one year n got so much stuff they got baby on the way toys n clothes, My dd who was almost 2 clothes, jacket, shoes, and a few toys. Even got hubby clothes a jacket n grocery gift cards, I got sneakers, clothes maternity n post preg, a jacket, gift cards to babiesrus n Walmart. Even wrapped each thing so we didn't have to. We were barely affording to keep a roof over our heads. It was done like a church group would sponsor a family. U tell them what age the kids are, what they need, same w the parents. it was by far a better Christmas than we could've imagined.

You could post on Craigslist for donations if you wanted. Lots of people do that out here for the holidays. Ky, tn, n ga uses golsn.com as well.
