Night terrors

What do you think causes them?
Ive always been told that traumatic events cause night terrors (the kind where your eyes are open and you are screaming blooding murder and frozen still)
I know for children trauma could just be about anything from being bullied or a scary movie. I just saw a FB post and this person really thought that the "Devil" was responsible for her son night terrors..

Besides trauma and such I think old souls. My kids have a nice and shiny life but the baby was up last night a lot with night terrors. He's a very old souled kid.

I also think kids feel souls not the "devil" lol. but if a 4yr old lives in a house with told of physical and emotional abuse then there night terrors are most likely a result of that right? Im feeling frustrated that this person is trying to pass it off on something else when its clearing not the devil and the current state of the home life.
