I had to take provera to get my period and then i took the clomid...it took 3 cycles to get pregnant the 1st 2 times (lost the 1st pregnancy) but everytime after that we tried with the clomid it took less cycles...second child only took 2 cycles and the current pregnancy only took one cycle.

She's seeing an RE correct? I'm no help since I don't have PCOS but I wish your sister lots of luck- infertility sucks no matter who's affected. I hope she gets her bfp soon.

I was diagnosed with PCOS as a teen too. We did the trials of clomid up to 150mg and it didn't work. I use provera and prometrium to start periods when we are doing cycles. The best thing she can do for herself would be to lose the weight again. I noticed that the heavier I got the more irregular my periods were, when I lose weight they come more frequently (like 3-4 times a year vs 1-2 times a year). We then did gonal-f injections for 1 round which was 14 days of injections at 200units, we got 1 follicle and got pregnant via trigger injection and IUI. i had low progesterone so i had to take progesterone supplements until 10weeks pregnant. I am currently in the process of losing weight so we can ttc again. LO will be a year old in january and we want to have our kids close in age.

Either she misinterpreted what her doctor said or her doctor was grossly negligent in saying she would never have kids. PCOS does hinder fertility but it's treatable. My doctor specializes in treating PCOS and the first thing he would recommend is that she begin eating a strictly low to no carb diet, ie Atkins. That is the single best thing she can do right now to help get her hormones in line. She should also talk to her doctor about taking metformin.

The "cure" for PCOS is weight loss. Most women with PCOS are insulin resistant so a low carb diet is usually most beneficial.

A lot of Dr's say that PCOS leads to infertility. I was told by 3 drs I wouldn't be able have a child.

OP- when I got pregnant I was eating super healthy, exercising daily and taking multivitamins. Within a month and a half I was pregnant. It was a whole lifestyle change. Does she drink or smoke?? She should quit if so. I treated my body like I was already pregnant and it happened. Not saying it'll happen that easily for her but that's the best advice I have.

Yes, she's lost 20 pounds or so already. She has been told she is insulin resistant. I believe she either IS on Metformin or WAS on Metformin.

But then you did have a child. It's one thing to say it causes problems with infertility, which it does. But entirely another to say you'll "never have a child." That is simply not true, as you have proven yourself. PCOS is treatable.

I didn't say PCOS means you can't have a child, the dr did  . I'm just saying that a lot of dr's SAY that it makes you not be able to have a kid. I'm very well aware if the fact that I have a kid.

Oh I thought you were agreeing with the doctors who say that. I think if they actually do say that it's pretty negligent on their part because then women will believe they don't need to use birth control as the woman mentioned in the OP did. A lot of doctors are just plain ignorant about PCOS too.
