constipated. help. :(
posted 25th Nov
I am almost 24 weeks and have had issue after issue with this pregnancy. A pocket in mmy membrane broke around 21 weeks, I just got rid of a bladder infection, and now I'm incredibly constipated. I've tried fibre cereal, bran, and lots of water but none of it is helping and its very uncomfortable. I'm wondering if there is a laxative that is safe tto take or if there is anything else I could try.

The dr recommended taking children vitamins like the flinstones ones for this reason & the prenatals always made me really sick.

Suppositories are your friend, and drinking lots of water and a good balanced diet with fruits and veggies. I have this issue every time I'm pregnant.

Don't take flinstones, they have aspartame in them, which is really bad for you and baby.

My doctor recommended Dulcolax or the off brand stool softener. She said Miralax (while it works wonders) is polyethylene glycol and is a laxative and shouldn't be taken during pregnancy due to the water and nutrient retention. Dulcolax is a stool softener and increases the intestinal activity (pregnancy constipation is caused by slowing of intestinal activity, so this reverses it). There have been no studies on Miralax with pregnant women so it's therefore classified as a Class C drug. Better safe than sorry! I hope this helps
As a side note, I take the childrens flintstones vitamins since I can't handle fish oils in prenatals. My doc said this was fine but to get Omega 3's somewhere else if possible.

I didn't know that about miralax. I asked my dr & checked with my pharmacist before i bought it. All they said was to make sure you drink lots of water so you dont get dehydrated.

Pears eat one or two pears a day . Nothing else works for me but they do wonders an also It may sound strange but sit on loo with your feet up on a small step really helps as its the natural position to go in x
