SOOOOO extremely terrified of labor lately, but for weird re

posted 25th Nov
So I was watching videos yesterday of live births to get a gauge on what women have been going through so I can have some sort of comparison, and I completely freaked out! Not because of the baby being shoved out of her vagina or anything, but watching them do the episiotomy!! I am terrified to get one! I watched the blood gush out and all I could think of is infections and stitches and how much it would sting! And now I'm afraid of induction, because I know pitocin causes a lot worse contractions, and I don't want an epidural! I dunno if I could go through strong contractions without one though. I am afraid of needles in the first place, but I could get over that. The main reason I don't want an epidural is I don't want a urinary catheter put in! I am freaked out by them cause I don't want anything going in my urethra and I am freaked out by bladder infections! I definitely am the most afraid of a C-Section because I'm pretty certain it will involve a catheter AND obviously getting my stomach cut open. I am not just freaking out for no reason about infections (if you haven't gotten yet that this is what I'm freaked out about the most) because my skin/body parts are HORRIBLY sensitive and gets infected easily. AND I just watched a friend of mine go through incision scrapings and antibiotics because of her C-Section! I guess I'm more afraid of recovery than anything. I've never had any extreme surgeries or anything. Anyone have bad experiences with infections or anything like that?

Wow!
You need to chill out!! I've had an epi, spinal tap, catheter (sp?), and had a c-section and I made it out alive.... People get these things everyday.
You'll be fine!!

Yeah I get that I'll be alive. That's all fine and dandy but I get infections if I even get scratched, so I'm not very confident on coming out with a big ol incision without it becoming infected. Just because you came out fine and other people do, doesn't mean I will too. And I know it could work out just as fine for myself. But what I was asking is if there was anyone dealing with infections or anything like that who want to share how they are getting along with them. Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

Quoting £egendary £ex:" Go all natural  "

Yeah I'm thinking that's my only option, but I'm definitely okay with that. I'm just nervous that my doctor won't be. The only grounds she has for induction so far is GD, and baby boy isn't HORRIBLY big yet. I might just tell her I want him to come on his own!

ok...if you need a section... there's not much you can do there. You'll need a spinal and a foley catheter. Make sure your doctor is aware you're prone to infections. THey'll watch you closer.. and likely do antibiotics just in case.

as far as induction.. if he decides baby is safer out than in.. you may just need to go with it. It's still possible to deliver natural even with pitocin. But.. needles are nothing compared to delivery pain. foley is mandantory for an epidural though. Try to relax and try not to stress about all the details. sounds like you're getting worked up about what ifs.

Doctors are crazy anal about infections when it comes to catheters. They usually prescribe the medication just as a precaution anyway!

I was terrified of getting an epidural so I decided I didn't want one early on, I didn't want pitocin, I didn't want a c-section..... The list went on!

By the end I needed to be put on pitocin to force stronger contractions because my cervix started closing back down after more than 24 hours of labour and my waters breaking, I needed a catheter put in when I was put on that because I couldn't get off the monitors, I ended up needing a c-section because I was in labour with no progress past 6cm for more than 8 hours and a total labour time of 42 hours. I am totally fine with it! They ended up finding a nodule of place at which would have caused a hemorrhage or septicemia if it wasn't found so I'm glad!

This one is a pretty definite c-section too only because I'm paranoid that it will happen again and a lot of new medical issues have arisen. I'll have a healthy baby at the end so it's really not a bad thing. You can't get all crazy over the way things may pan out. It's better for you to just go with the flow

I was VERY freaked out when I was having my first child. I was scared to death. I didn't want anything. It is scary when you're having a baby and you don't know what to expect. You aren't sure how your body is going to respond or what is going to happen. Go into the birth with the decision to be all natural. Your doctor may not like it, but it is YOUR choice. During the labor, you CAN change your mind if you want to.   I was so scared as I was giving birth that I was throwing up like crazy because my nerves were so high. It is scary the first time! Now that I know what to expect, it's all good. You'll do fine! Just remember, everything is YOUR choice.

Thanks for the advice!   I understand that I still should be going with the flow on everything, because if I freak out too much during delivery, it probably WILL end up in a C-Section. Its not that I'm totally ignorant or anything of the reasons why they do things, its just I'm afraid of pain AFTER I have the baby. I know its completely expected to be in pain during. Its normal for me to get worked up way before, but I definitely will do whats best for my baby when the time comes. I just wanted to express my fears and see if anyone has had this happened so I know how to take care of it on a perspective of someone who's been through it. Its just the way I deal with fears. But yes I do agree that I am going to go in with as natural as possible, or as little interventions as possible, and get anything I feel I need at the time. I get that I'll probably not care at the time. Thanks for those who took the time to actually give a helpful answer.
