Teens and Maternity Leave

Should teens get maternity leave for their schooling? (6 weeks+)
I was reading an article that says people think it will just gives teens too much time off and they won't want to come back. But I think if they did receive some type of maternity leave they would be able to come back easier than having to go back to school only a week or so after giving birth and becoming a new mother.
What do you think? Yes or No? Why?

If labor was normal and no complications, I don't see the problem with going back after 2 weeks. But that may be a biased opinion because when I had my son at 16, I had 2 weeks of maternity leave and had to go back to school. I do believe that if I had waited to go back later, it would have been harder to go back to school. The only reason I believe teens should get 6 weeks is because if they go back sooner, it would be extremely hard for them to find childcare for a baby younger than 6 weeks older.

I think that's kinda sad that that's something we have to think about ...
But I think it should be up to the individual and the school. Some girls may be ready to do some schooling at home then go back in 6 weeks, some may be ready to go after 3 or 4. Same as working really.

here they do get maternity leave
and honestly they need it,most girls i know didn't take the full 6 weeks or they split it half before/after baby
i think every new mom is entitled to a little R&R after having a baby

Well if my job wouldn't have given me leave, then I would have quit so I assume that teen mom's would feel the same about school.. I think there's cons to both. But if it were a choice between that time with baby that can't get back or school, I would have picked baby no doubt. Unfortunately, that's how it is.

And I mean same as working as in different women are ready to go back at different times.

Uh, yeah! Not only did their bodies just go through a serious trauma, but their babies need them home as well. And if they choose not to go back, oh well. I'm willing to bet it has more to do with working and earning money to buy diapers than anything else.

I agree that it would be harder to go back after a longer period of time off but I think that girls should have an option to take up to 6 weeks off. That's bonding time that shouldn't be taken away just because of a mothers age.

Maybe 3 weeks because it's going to be hard catching up in school and keeping in school with a baby and maternity leave for 6 week would be really hard to catch up with that's almost half a quarter.

I had my first baby in high school and I did home study for the rest of that year which made things so much easier. I can't imagine going back to school right away especially only 2 weeks after giving birth. Most girls I know who had babies in high school did home study after having their babies.

Is home studies the same as independent studies or is it home schooling?

I got time off after having my son at 16. I got 6 weeks worth of work to take home and had to drop off a packet each Friday. That time off really helped me get used to my new life as a mother, without it I would have probably failed my classes or dropped out. At 6 weeks my son started daycare & I went back without any adjustment issues.

Um, I guess independent study? Basically I went in and met with a teacher once a week, she would grade my work from the previous week, give me new assignments and answer any questions I had or give me whatever instruction I needed for the next weeks work.

So it was kinda like you did independent studies for 6 weeks?
