Working out after a C section
posted 7th Mar '07
I was wondering how long i need to wait after having a C section to work out. I recovered extremely quick after my surgery. the next day i was up cleaning the hospital room haha. My doctor never told me if i need to wait longer than my 6 weeks. If anyone can help me out id appreciate it! thanks!

Hi there,
I have had 2 sons by c-section and worked out a little about 6 wks after and then at 9 weeks post preg. I got a personal trainer for 3 days a week and then did cardio for 2 days a week and that was a bit much at first but I was all for getting back into shape!! I slowed down a bit and just did 2 days of cardio and 2 days of weights. About 1-2 hrs each.
I think you should just listen to your body, If something started to hurt or my incision seemed red or sore then I knew I did too much, and I took a few days off.
Best of luck to you!!
;)

Please keep in mind: this is major abdominal surgery. Your body has to recover from baby AND surgery! You body has to make scar tissue in all the right places, if not, you could end up with a weak spot that c-o-u-l-d break open easier the next time you are pregnant... sound like fun? no. Talk to your MD, and be very specific about the type(s) of exercise you plan on doing, then listen carefully to their advice.
This is not a topic to be taken lightly.

true true... no working out until at least 6 wks then i would still talk to your doc. i found for me just walking for about 20 mins was painful at first. so i tried shorter period of time, rested and tried again!! no abdominal workouts for the first 6 wks at least!!! it is a huge surgery... i have had 3 and each time they suggested not even lifting my 2yr daughter... just dont hurt yourself!!!
