Ehhh, I'd rather shower then go.

posted 24th Nov
I've been thinking about this lately, if my water breaks, I feel like I would want to take a shower and waste some time and THEN tell someone and get a ride to the hospital, instead of wasting time sitting in the room and being sent home for not dilating fast enough only to have to go back to the hospital later. I mean if I get closely timed, painful contractions obviously I'll go, but as of right now I think I'll probably take a shower and dilly daddle a little bit. Has anyone wasted time? My mom had seven kids and I can tell you she did not rush to the hospital, she went home and cleaned and such and then when she got to the hospital her doctor asked what took so long. But hey, if keeping busy takes the mind off of pain, alright.

I'm not against laboring some at home at all

That said, if your water really breaks and you're leaking amniotic, I don't think they send you home. Especially if there was a gush, I would go in pretty quickly (not saying I wouldn't shower first if I wanted to) just because you don't wanna get low on fluid.

i guess it would depend on a few things...if you have strep b then as soon as your water breaks you need to go to the hospital to get the meds. in my situation, if my water were to break before im induced, i would need to go to the hospital right away because my baby has a heart condition. but if you have no problems, i see no problem with waiting it out a little

I did. I waited 3 hours before I even woke my husband up, then we waited 2 hours to wake up my parents. Then I showered, ate, had my mom braid my hair and then we packed up what wasn't already in the car. So it was about 6 hours til we left, and we had an your drive to the hospital on top of that.

If your water breaks, they won't send you home. Honestly, though, there's no need to rush. I got on BG and packed my bag after my water broke. Keep in mind that if you shower first, you'll probably continue to leak and get sticky.

I would take a shower too (provided I'm close to my due date, heh.) However they usually don't send you home once your water breaks. Taking a shower and staying on your feet might help progress your labor though.

You can take a shower after your water breaks, but I wouldn't wait around for other things to happen. The risk of infection increases once it breaks, so it's always a good idea to head into the hospital.

Usually when your water breaks that is when the contractions are going to really get bad so I would go in just in case but thats just me! Although showering realy quick would be in my check list before I head out. lol

Well they say that once your water breaks you need to go right in because once your ruptured there's risk for infection. I however did take a shower and take my time but I didn't dilly dally. I think we left an hour after it broke and got to the hospital 20 minutes after that. They took their sweet time at L&D though and didn't even believe me that my water had broken until 3 hours later they finally did an ultrasound and surprise! No fluid left! They had debated sending me home because I was only 2cm but I swore to them I had no simply peed my pants. I had my son 19 hours after my water broke, well within their "24 hour timeframe" that they gave me. And I was super glad I took that shower. Because the nurses were bitches and didn't let me have one while I was in PP so it was 3 days before my next shower and I felt super gross.

You didn't have ANY fluid left, and they let you continue laboring?

I had bloody show and 5 minute apart contractions at 8am. We left for the hospital around 930am and had DD at 103am. -_- I thought because they were 5 minutes apart the baby was coming fast. I had no clue! LOL! if you can wait at home, do it!

I ended up with an amnio infusion actually to pump some saline in there. But yeah, they didn't really do anything to help before that. It was a terrible hospital.

My water broke during the night, and when I woke up I took a shower before going in. I realized that the fluid was only going to keep coming out, but I didn't want to stink

My mom was flipping out and yelling at me outside the shower to hurry up. I wasn't even having contractions or anything. I say the more relaxed you are, the better.

Oh, that makes more sense. I was gonna say... they didn't care that you didn't have ANY fluid?!
