My water broke as I was getting ready to shower lol. I told my mom, called my doctor, and then showered. Put some make up on. Took my dogs out. Then I ate a little bit, since I knew I would be living on water once I got to the hospital. I got my bag out, and by the time all that was done, contractions were coming about 3-4 mins apart.. something like that. I labored at home for probably 4 hours. Labored at the hospital for 8.

Showering was pretty useless though. My water kept leaking and it smelled and was sticky lol. I guess at least my hair was clean.

All of my tests came back good, I also do not have strep b, and woohoo! Looks like I'll labor at home for a little if I can get away with it and then be like, "Oh, hey, by the way, my water broke a little bit ago, could I hitch a ride?" (: Thank you all for your advice! It helps a lot knowing other people's experiences and just from these responses I learned stuff that I was unaware of that I probably should know! Helpful bunch of people on this site(:.

I am all for showering before going to the hospital but when my water was leaking I felt nasty as hell haha. It is just nasty, labor is not pretty at ALL lol. You leak blood & amniotic fluid..it is disgusting. I would stand up & there would be a puddle of amniotic fluid at my feet lol.

Doesn't it vary in different cases though? Like it can be a slow leak, a huge gush, a trickle. That's what my doctor said. I understand it keeps flowing, but I don't think everyone pours like Niagra Falls

With my first my water broke while I was sleeping. When I woke up and realized it was leaking I immediately woke up SO, changed our clothes, and headed to the hospital. From water breaking until she was born was only 1hr 45 min. I'm glad I didn't just piddle around.

Then with my 3rd my water broke after I went pee. We went straight to the hospital and she was born 6 hours later. So I could have messed around for awhile but I was too scared I wouldn't make it lol.

Mine was one big gush then it was like uncontrollable pee coming out when I stood up after they broke it lol. A slow leak would mean your water wasn't fully broken, it would mean there was probably a little tear in the sac.
