sensory issues, going away and coming back

If you kid had sensory issues did they ever stop certain ones for a while, then they came back? DD used to scratch herself really bad, like she would always have scabs all over her back, but around 2 she grew out of it. Now at almost 4 she has started again. She wants me to scratch her back for as long as I will, and is sensitive to certain textures on it, and will cry if she can't get it it.

I thought she grew out of some of these things, but this and others are coming back.

Are you sure it's a sensory thing and not something like eczema?

My daughter has had eczema since she was a baby, but it's always worse in the winter (dry air and whatnot). She scratches until she bleeds and her skin looks terrible. Certain textures will aggrivate it, too. And I have to use special detergent for her clothes.

Yeah she has been checked out for it a bunch of times. Every new dr checks her out. We have tried lotions and treatments in the past and nothing makes it better. We buy a special hyper-allergenic detergent to, its expensive as smurf >.<

Is there usually a lot going on when she wants it scratched or does she like her back scratched when she is tired?

Yeah, it sucks. Eczema is a bitch to control sometimes.

we just do the special detergent for my allergies mostly >.< it doesnt make a difference for her

R was dx with spd last year..we thought he grew out of it and bow its back way worse!

same here, some are back WAY worse. And she is also developing a stutter

Is she in speech? R has an OT now for his issues.

no, i can link you to a vid where she is doing it. Its kind of like she has so much to get out she doesnt know how to slow down, sometimes it takes her a very long time

Yeah c does something similar, he speaks gibberish for a long time before getting something out that makes sense. I agree its an issue of slowing down.

My daughter has sensory issues nd I swear fie a long while around 2.5 til 3, she had completely grown out of it. Now some days she seems like it is really bad again. She gets super spazzy for lack of a better term, lol. Forgets where her body is in space, wont touch anything or wear clothes.

I have noticed for us, TV or any electronics makes it seriously a gajillion times worse, there is a gigantic difference. Any changes in routine will also make it worse

My son really responds to things like scratching or rubbing. We have a small handheld flexible brush, sorta like a giant nail brush but with bigger bristles I use on him daily. His OT therapist wants him on a "sensory diet" and the brush is a part of that. She probably wants you to scratch her because it feels good and is giving her the extra input she needs to help process her surroundings. It's actually a tried and true therapy technique for children with sensory issues. A lot of times when I don't have our brush with me and my son is getting antsy I will scratch his back or comb through his hair, its soothing and also gives him solid input so he's able to process his feelings/observations without getting overwhelmed and acting out.

If your child isn't in OT I highly recommend looking into it. My son started going weekly a few months ago and it has made a world of difference with his sensory issues. If that's not an option I can share some of our therapies we do for his sensory diet that help a LOT!
