Random question....

posted 24th Nov
I know this will probably sound like a random question, but I go on maternity leave in two weeks (a week before I am due) and I really want to get my nails done. It has been about 6 years since I was able to get acrylics because they do not allow them at my work, so I figured wince I have 12 weeks off I would treat myself while on leave. My question is... Has anyone had any problems with fake nails during labor, and after? I know it sounds weird but I am worried that they might get in the way, with god knows what, breastfeeding, or even wiping diapers,. Who knows, but I don't want to spend money and then regret it shortly after, and am contemplating on weather or not I should even get them...

I planned on getting them the week before my due date. Maybe wait till after baby is born? Or will this not even be a problem?

Any advice?

Depends on how you feel about exposing your baby to chemicals too. Your skin absorbs whatever you put on it into your body. Acrylic nail chemicals are pretty strong. Just sitting there smelling the strong odor while getting them done is pretty intense. I am not saying its right or wrong or will harm your baby or not....Just saying to think that over when you make your decision.

Keep them real short if you get them. Long nails can scratch a baby real easily especially when you are not used to having them on and maneuvering with them. Plus you will be deal with lots of poop! You don't want to worry about getting poop under your nails with each change!

Thank you! All of these and them some were some of the exact reasons I posted this question in the first place. I will keep it all in mind. :-)

I've been getting my nails done my whole pregnancy but when she is born Im going to have him round the edges a little so they aren't as sharp. I think since it's been so long for you, you won't be as used to them so just keep them short and the tips a little rounded to avoid scratching/stabbing baby!! ;)
