siblings bathing together

posted 24th Nov
At what age would you have your kids stop bathing together? I have a 4 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. We have been staying at my mom's over the Thanksgiving weekend and she was so mad that I still let them bathe together and she believes it's completely inappropriate. But then again I'm adopted and she's 72. I told her that I will let them bathe together until any of us are uncomfortable with it. They still shower with me as well. Also, do you think it's inappropriate to let a 4 year old boy run around the house in just his underwear? She's been having issues with this too. But her house her rules I guess and it's just for another night

if they don't care/aren't uncomfortable, i wouldn't worry about it. my LO is 4 and sometimes still showers with me.

I'd let them bathe together till one of them let it be known they were uncomfortable.

Actually the funny thing is that's usually opposite. More older people seem to make less a stink about that then people our ages.

i was still bathing with my two younger brothers until i was like 7 or something. one is three years younger than me and the other is four years younger than me. smurf, when we could all fit in the tub, we all three bathed with one of our best friends (families were best friends and we literally grew up together, like cousins).

wow really? maybe it's a religious thing with her then. lol she was part of the "boarding school" era when our tribe was all split up and forced into boarding schools. the one she was placed in was a Catholic one and run by nuns.

Really? In my experience its been the older generation, like late 70s aka my smurfin grand parents who have an opinion on everything. Lol

I think it is fine, honestly. I bathed with my aunt and cousin when we were younger, but we were also all girls. Like they said, until they say it's uncomfortable to them then I don't see a big deal.

I bathed with my cousin (raised together) until we were too big to fit in the bath together anymore.

Agreed. My 4.5 year old still thinks it is an absolute blast to take a bath with her little brother. Once that changes, we'll change our routine. Until then, they're having fun...so who cares!

You are native american I assume? I think it goes back to a time when bathing was not done often, so you saved money by doing it less, and when you did do it all the kids plopped into the tub together. From what my nana told me *she's 93* that it was pretty common to share bathes until you began to change *her concept of puberty*, and even then not always. As society gets more advanced,we get more used to the concept of privacy things like this being to be an issue. Anyway going back to the OP, I would just let them make the choice. When kid's want to be modest they are going to let you know.

My momma has pictures of my sister and my two brothers in the tub together, sister was about 6, brothers were 5 and 3. I don't see anything wrong with it, either. She did always remind us that no one should ever see us in our underwear, or nude. She was pretty strict about that. I mean, she'd yell at my dad for coming out of the shower with just a towel around his waist, and would yell at us girls for coming out of the shower with just a towel around us. She's a fifties girl. Think it's all about modesty, nothing perverse.
