Babies are not people, they do not need respect

posted 24th Nov
This was regarding a post on Facebook from Elizabeth Pantley (author of No-Cry Sleep Solution.) Picture is below.

"You people are reterded. We may be animals, but our sentient minds separate us. If your baby is crying, you first check on them to make sure nothing is actually wrong. Then, when sure nothing is wrong, you let them wear themselves out. No babies are not people, nor do they need respect. Reapect is earned through life experience. Babies need care and attention. They have to be taught how to live througb the course of their lives. CIO is how you deal with excessive and unwarranted crying, such as a toddlers temper tantrum."

I'm quite ashamed to say that I have known this person for years - and that he is on my friend's list. And no, he does not have children.

Thoughts about the part in bold? Agree? Disagree?

A toddler's temper tantrum, and a young baby's crying are two different things entirely.

Disagree.

Yes, they need respect.

When they're 21 and giving you attitude for lending them your car, that's when you let them CIO. Not when they're an infant and just need some love.

He sounds like an idiot. Babies are people.

My children's needs become before my own. I can't let my babies CIO for my own satisfaction.

I'm confused. Of course I do not think babies are not people and don't deserve respect. But I'm trying to figure out who posted what in there. I agree CIO is for a child's temper tantrum. Not a babies need for care and affection.

Yeah srsly. Like I get not agreeing with certain parenting techniques. I have friends who use CIO - but I don't go around calling them "retarded" or insulting them. And honestly the fact that he has no children is laughable. That's like me giving advice to the owner of a horse on how to make the horse behave when I don't even own one.

Of course babies are people that need respect. That being said, there is a HUGE difference between babies crying and my 3 1/2 year old throwing a fit for me not allowing ice cream in the middle of the day - it's just not the same.

He posted that entire thing that I copy and pasted. He said it in response to people saying "Yay, thank you Elizabeth Pantley for this picture" or people saying "Agree with this picture" or people who clicked "like" on the picture.

I think that the picture was specifically talking about a BABY. For that, I entirely agreed.

To me, toddlers enter a different stage of life, and I'm perfectly fine letting them cry when appropriate.

I would also be really curious to know this person's take how someone teaches respect without giving some.
