Utilize your hospital's lactation consultant...they are a great resource! They will make sure you're doing it right. And above all...keep trying! Don't give up right away, even if it's difficult.

I plan to breastfeed but I know alot of people who had a difficult time doing so.
In the event that I have a hard time actually breastfeeding, I plan to pump and do it that way. Breastfeeding can be difficult and take some time to get a hang of, I would do like the pp said and utilize your lactation consultant and any other resources that you can. If you find actual breastfeeding difficult pumping is always an option.

I had issues, my daughter was tongue tied, my supply took forever to come in, I had to use some formula every time she had a growth spurt because my supply took forever to increase. It was hard but SO worth it. The bonding and health benifits are both so amazing. The lactation consultant in the hospital will make sure you know what you're doing before you leave and (at least here) they give you a number to call if you have questions, not to mention La Leche League has great reasorces (llli.org), and you can always ask questions here.
