Diabetes question

The urine strips that you can buy at the store....will they tell you if you are diabetic or it are they just a tool that people with diabetes use? I'm really worried that I'm diabetic.

those strips won't be helpful to you. You need specific diagnosing.

I'm always tired, hungry, lots of headaches, extremely thirsty, dizziness and my mom is diabetic so I know I could get it too. I probably think about it too much.

yes the ones for ketones! I don't have insurance for another 2 or 3 weeks but I'm going to go when I can

You should definitely make a doctor's appointment...self-diagnosing is never good. Even if it turns out you're wrong, it's still better to put your mind at ease.

just because someone is diabetic it doesn't mean that there is large amounts of glucose in the urine. It is mostly when the glucose levels are high and untreated that there is glucose in the urine. ketones and glucose in the urine are two total different things. Ketones are produce when the body is not using the glucose correctly. This causes the body to break down muscle and fat to use as energy and the ketones are the by product. DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis) occurs if the body is breaking down the fat and muscle. It is a very serious condition.
The best way to find out if you are diabetic is to go to the dr and they will do a glucose tolerance test.
