All babies are different, my daughter rarely cries & she has been that way since she was a newborn. Other babies who may have colic can cry around the clock. Hope it gets better soon.

Maybe he has reflux or just gas. Have you tried white noise to see if that soothes him?

Buy The Happiest Baby On the Block DVD. I used the technique for my daughter and am using it for my son who is WAY more high needs than my daughter was. It's a really corny DVD but it WILL help you get more sleep.

Also, look into The No-Cry Sleep Solution - it's a book. Get started with that one quick.

I linked you to them so you can read the reviews on them. Good luck! They say not to let babies CIO until at least 6 months, hopefully these books can help in the mean time. I have a difficult baby as well. Sorry for not really linking, BG won't let me link - but definitely read the reviews and then look into purchasing them! Sometimes you can check them both out at the library.

We all do. And when they are so small, we are really limited with our options. We've all been there, believe me. i am personally not a fan of the whole cry-it-out stuff, but to each his own. Either way, avoid cry-it-out until 6 months. As long as you don't mind rocking your baby to sleep in the meantime and helping soothe the baby, and establish a routine, the books will help. It can be hard to hold baby all the time, with these books you don't have to. For Happiest Baby On the Block, it works best if you have a swing. First you swaddle the baby, if it's not enough then you "SHHHHH" really loud in baby's ear (about the same volume as baby's cry) at the same time. if that's not enough, then you can combine all of that with a pacifier, the breast or a bottle. If it's still not enough - rock the baby while you do all of those things. It sounds tough, but it's really not. The DVD shows the doctor's success with that technique and also shows you how to do it better. If you have a swing, you can usually rock baby to sleep while swaddles, pacified, etc. and baby will sleep for several hours at a time in the swing. Just make sure the belly is full first. :-)

Now I wish I had bought a swing....oh well we'll have to see what this little girl is like and then go from there, lol.

Well, there are a few things that it could be, but it sounds like when my son had colic. I was honestly running on two hours of sleep a day. He cried from midnight until 6 AM and slept for a few minutes at most during that time period. I don't know how I survived it. Gripe water helped a bit, if you want to give that a try.

My son is in his swing now ;-)
Best part is that they really don't become all that reliant on them. I used Happiest Baby On the Block with daughter and she stopped needing swing around 4 or 5 months.

I bought a new one this time, the kind that plugs into the wall because I was going through batteries WAY too fast last time lol. I probably spent like $100 on smurfing batteries.

I would die without the swing from sleep deprivation. You can buy them on Craigslist for cheap too, if you do end up needing one. I bought mine used at the kid's consignment store in town.
