Sounds like me   Though I only had 2 other sisters, and was only raised with 1... my parents were poor and sometimes we just didn't have dinner, because they couldn't afford it. I'm so stingy with money... and he spends it like crazy, or gets it from his mom. It's a blessing and a curse -- it's nice to know she'll be there if we really need her, but a burden because we don't really NEED the money, just want it, and she gives it. Sighhh.

LOL. After I found out that a lot of big brand name companies actually make the off-brand food.... I started giving no smurfs

Yeah for lunch he was only allowed to eat a half sandwich. (A folded one only allowed 1 price of bread) lol. So when we 1st started dating I'd always send him home with food.

Yeah that's a tough situation. Does she just have the.money to give out like that? Or does she do it because she can't yell him no?

She has the money to give out... which sucks. Smurf, last night SO told her he wanted a TV for the bedroom... so she withdrew $300 from the ATM

She has credit cards... I guess just to have them. Her other son steals 'em and runs them up. When we were buying my car, the guy asked her if she would be interested in a new car... and she said no, because she's paying about $600 a month on her credit cards alone

I guess I'm just brainwashed. Like with cereal.and smurf idc. But cheese? Has to be "brand name". Any kind of soup that isn't Campbell's is gross. Lol. And don't even get me started on off brand spaghetti os and raviolis! Lol. Off brand hot pockets? Gross. Off brand ramen? Even.worse.

Lmao.

She's only a deli manager at Kroger! But she's rolling in money... I don't get it. When SO and I were living with her... we'd go out to Longhorn all the time and drop $65 on dinner for the 3 of us, and she'd pay. She grocery shops daily. She doesn't have a lot of luxuries, though. She has an older car with no car payment, just insurance. Basic phone, basic cable. So I guess she saves a lot of money with that.

Right? And probably with how long she's been there... she's gotten a ton of raises and what not. Must be nice

Its gonna take a while to break him of that.
just try to budget really well so that he doesn't feel the need to ask her for anything for a while, and then he'll learn to stop living beyond his/your means. Theoretically

Simply stop accepting gifts from his mother. When she brings them to the house return them. When he brings them back return them. grocery shop by YOURSELF, that way he gets no input in that area. People who have issues with money I have found generally need their partner to run that aspect of the marriage.

He went out AGAIN this morning. She bought him a huge TV stand for the bedroom, and shelves for the wall. Sigh   And then $200 spent on his niece. THE WOMAN CAN'T STOP

Take what you can get
Bretts mom used to be similar. But more practical. When we moved in together she got us a dish rack and a toaster and stuff
and got dressers through people she knew, etc.
its just a mom thing. Used to drive me smurfing nuts, like she thought we were smurf broke or thought I wouldn't have gotten those things otherwise. But she was just being helpful hah

I appreciate it all for sure. But... she didn't help us with anything moving in, lol. I guess it's because Mike didn't ask for anything.
