Work discuss, input on saving babies
posted 23rd Nov
We were talking at work about babies left in cars, and someone suggested that if a person walks by and does nothing that they should also be charged with negligence if something were to happen to the baby.
What are your thoughts, if you see a baby in a car, unattended. Would you break a window and unlock the car? Would it depend on the temperature, or if the baby was in distress? Would you deal with itin another way if there didn't appear to be any distress? Or would you mind your own and keep walking?
What about dogs?

I would break the window in a heart beat. I would probably wait by the car for 3-5 minutes and if no one came back out goes their window!

I'd call 911 and without hesitation try to break a window

I don't think I would even wait, I'd break it just to teach them a lesson at the very least.

For me it would depend on the situation, I mean if the car is in a front spot at say a convenience store and its possible the parent is doing a run in pay for gas run out type thing then I would just watch to make sure that is whats happening. But if its in the middle of a huge parking lot and it looks as if no one is in a hurry to get to it then I would be on the phone to the cops and busting a window

I'm pretty sure that's still illegal everywhere. But I get your point, not worth intervening.

Hot cars here in the Sumner are not smurf to smurf around with, I'd call 911 and break in.
Winter time I'd call 911 but not break in unless the baby was screaming.

I'd break it for a baby without hesitation. For a dog, it would have to be hot or extremely cold.
My puppy loves going bye bye, and if the weather is right, she stays in the car and watches people. So I don't see anything wrong with leaving a dog in the car if the weather is nice...
But babies... Yep out goes the window.

I'd break the window and call 911 if the weather were extreme (like really hot or really cold), otherwise, I wouldn't even wait and I'd call 911.

If it was hot I'd break the window.

I was just going to ask if temperature was a factor for anyone. I mean sometime in cold, cold weather it's almost safer to leave the baby in the car. But I mean..not really, I just can see the logic.

Right, I mean here its a small town everyone knows everyone and people do the run in run out quick thing, so its just a fact of watching to make sure someone is going back to the car.

I don't know, I'm pretty adamant about never leaving babies in a car. I do see your point, but I kind of think if its that cold maybe you shouldn't be going out anyway.
But everyone has different circumstances they have to do the best they can with.
Personally, I would never leave my kid in the car and if I saw a baby in a car in nice weather, I'd wait by the car if the baby was ok until the parents returned.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, so many things can happen though, like another car hits your parked car, the baby starts throwing up or you get held up longer than expected in the store. I don't know, I would just never do it, so it's hard for me to imagine why anyone would. I mean you prepay for most has anyway.
