Therapy for depression

posted 23rd Nov
If you have ever had therapy for depression/PPD, did it help? Was it expensive? I have severe PPD and I need something done about it, but I don't want to waste the money on therapy if it isn't going to help. I'm 99% sure I can't afford it anyway.

I get Medicaid. Does that cover therapy?

Yes I'm in therapy for depression and other problems. I pay $20 a session. I don't have insurance. That is really cheap for therapy I think. She doesn't work for the money so she charges way less than normal for me since I'm on a very limited budget. It helps some I believe. We're in the process of doing Dialectical Behavior Therapy which helps with depression among other things

I had terrible PPD with my daughter and the talk therapy/counciling, which is what I've always used to battle my anxiety and depression issues just did not help at all with the PPD. My doctor prescribed a VERY low dose of a mild antidepressant and after about 6 or 7 weeks on it I was feeling 100% better. Depression can be caused by external circumstances and/or chemical/hormonal imbalances. In this instance it more likely a chemical/hormonal imbalance causing the depression as opposed to outside circumstances.
Good luck.

I've tried antidepressants. They worked before I got pregnant, and a little after she was born but they slowly stopped working.

Antidepressants don't work for me either but I'm on them because it makes my doctor/therapist feel better I guess.

Then maybe a combination of talk therapy and a small increase in your prescription? I am a HUGE advocate for talk therapy to treat mental and emotional conditions, but I know that for ME, it just didn't help for PPD specifically.

I am tht way too. But unfortunately my depression is chemical. I have no complaints about my life. Nothing to cry to a therapist about. It's nothin I can control. It sucks   I wish I didn't have to be on meds

I am prone to anxiety and talk therapy is very helpful with that but with my PPD it just didn't even touch it. I needed chemical intervention.
