re: Renting an apartment in a complex

Same here, it's terrible. We were lied to about the safety of the area too, so we're moving in 2 weeks to a nice little house. We just need to find a fridge and a stove. *fingers crossed*

We needed to find an apartment from the other side of the country and the place looked nice in pictures. It took a year and a half for them to replace the sink, the windows aren't sealed properly and our balcony door is on backwards so there is a gap that we have to stuff full of weather stripping to try and stop the draft. It was also supposed to be non smoking and no pets but is neither of these things.

Now we've been here over 2 years and stuck until we pay off the rest of our debt because DH is self employed and some months are better than others.

We got screwed so bad but they haven't raised our rent so SO wants to stay until we're debt free

It took us 2 days but we did our paper work and turned it in on a regular week. Not all complexes are bad. Ours is actually the cheapest rent you can find around here. People are shocked when I tell them we pay $725/3br. However we payed $1400 in a security deposit and we have very strict rules. Where you can park your car, when they dumpsters are unlocked and locked, what signs and decorations you can have on your door or hallway, keeping the hallway/stairwells clean and empty etc etc. the place is super clean, quiet and well maintained. The same can't be said at all for some of the other near by complexes.

It took 3 weeks to get approved for mine! It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with a balcony. Newly built (Not even a year ago). Gorgeous place. Rent is $495 a month, I pay electric. The only rules we really have is we are only allowed "seasonal" decorations on the patio/balcony and they must be removed in a timely manner. I think it took so long because it is "affordable housing" and they had to have it approved 3 different times, and we had issues when they checked my income because my BD was paying arrears for child support and it made my income look wonky.

Yeah, it took 2 months total from the beginning of our bathtub issue, the tub had cracked down the middle, to get it fixed, it leaked to the kitchen for weeks, the first patch he put over the hole came down in 30 minutes, right before my class, and he admitted he half-assed it because he wanted to go, and the next one looks like smurf. He scratched the walls around the bathtub installing it, the caulking is already peeling up. They took all of our window screens down to paint and still have not replaced them, which sucks because we used open windows to cool the house in fall instead of AC, Linoleum in the kitchen's half coming up, the wood floors were installed badly, and we swear maintenance is using OUR electricity in the basement below us to run their tools and smurf.

I'm so ready to be out of this smurfhole.

Oh dude, I hope we can all move soon. Our windows never had screens to begin with, they haven't powerwashed the windows this year at all and there are bird nests all over the building now so the windows are disgusting. Most of the tenants that were here when we first moved in have left and it's all young single people now so it's pretty much non-stop noise.

Hopefully I can find a place for a decent price and convince SO we need to move.
