Can animals just tell?

My cat has always been an attention hog, but that was usually when I would be sitting in the living room & he wanted lovin'. Here lately he has been extremely clingy. He follows me around the house, to the bathroom, when I lock him out of the bathroom he scratches on the door like a maniac, he has started sleeping with SO & I (he used to only sleep in the dining area, he never came in our room) he just seems like he always wants to be around me. If I make a sudden move, even while he is asleep, he will wake up & watch what I'm doing until I sit back down. I was getting kind of worried about him doing these things because he is very old. SO got him in '99 & he was already about 2 years old at the time he got him, so I was worried he may be sick or something. But I did a little research & read that animals can sense pregnancy & when labor is close. So, do you think that is why he is growing more & more attached to me as the weeks go by? Have any of you ladies experienced this with your pets? I think it's adorable & I'm hoping this is the reason, because I really don't want him to be sick...

Yes, I believe some animals can sense pregnancy, or even know when you're in labor.
...Except mine, mine didn't give a smurf.

Absolutely! We have a beagle and he turned into a different dog around me when I was pregnant. He was never a super protective dog but all of a sudden, he would not leave my side and he wouldn't let anybody NEAR me. People would come over (family included) and he would run in front of me and growl, hair raised, everything.

Cats definitely can sense when a woman is pregnant. Our old cat Joe would allllways want to be near me and would climb on my big ol belly for naps lol. Our cat Neo often snuggles with me too and always wants to be near. Idk if they can sense if labor is near but they definitely pick up on the pregnancy

My cat actually wants nothing to do with me since I've been pregnant, and we had to put the baby stuff out of her reach because she started peeing on it

Every animal I have come in contact with since becoming pregnant has to be by me. My dog snuggles my belly and pokes it with his nose lol. he also guards the belly.

My dog is always constantly up my ass within days of conception. I've only not been pregnant for 7 months of her life

Aww, that is so adorable. That's exactly how he is. It makes me feel a lot better knowing that his behavior is normal, with him being so old & everything I get worried if he does anything out of the norm.

Glad it's not just mine! She's NEVER done that before...but I had a box of baby clothes that I bought in the closet and when I went to put them in DD's dresser, they were all pee-stained and musty smelling. I'm like...how did she even know those were for the baby?
I don't think she'll ever forgive us.

They must know it's knew and it doesn't smell like that house yet. My cat even tried spraying me, which is weird because neutered male cats rarely do that. He senses a change.

My mother in laws oldest dog acts very protective of me, especially when any men come to the house. She'll sit in front of me, or next to me, and settle one of her paws in front of me, and watch everyone. It's kinda sweet, and a little scary for other people. My baby chihuahua (who I bought bc she was 8 wks, and I was 8 wks pregnant) follows me around everywhere, and whines at the shower curtain when I'm in there. She likes to snuggle on my tummy, too, I've noticed, or on my side. My mother in law just told me that the day she went into labor, none of her animals wanted anything to do with her. They definitely know!

Definitely. My dog has always been an attention hog, too, but since I've been pregnant he's just been extra cuddly and a lot more well behaved. I'm loving it lol. He always lays with his head next to my belly.
